power steering pully rubbing steering rack mount!!!

hi, can anyone help ive got a 85 420se and the power steering pulley is rubbing the power steering rack mount. ive tried a shorter belt but the pulley still only just clears the rack mount.

Check the engine mounts haven't died/slipped and caused the engine to drop a bit.

I take it you have the Cam gears SD1 style rack of 2.7 turns, and not the 3.6 Ford rack? One option is to install an electric PAS pump from a saxo, like they do in the modern TVRs.

I have heard that someone had a smaller PAS pulley made, but was expensive, and who knows what the pump life goes down to. Later cars had a special TVR bracket which located the PAS pump high up near the air filter, but you need a double pulley on the water pump for this.

The TR8 bracket doesn't help, nor do any of the later RR brackets as the waterpump is different, and you don't wanna go changing the whole front to serpentine do you?

I'm machining some pulleys at the moment for the 520 so it may be possible to do a slightly reduced version with more clearancefor far less than the cost of a Saxo electric pump.
