Reading the other post about slow electric windows it occurs to me that "slow" or "not slow" is all an individual opinion. I think mine are a bit slow, but not excessively so.
I decided to conduct an experiment using a high tech timing device(the second hand on the kitchen clock).
I tested the windows on my 2000 Chim with the engine at idle with the following results;
Passengers window.
4 secs to lower
5 secs to raise

Drivers window.
5 secs to lower
6 secs to raise

I then tested the drivers window on my 2001 Peugeot 406 ( which has had a lot more use than the TVR)
3 secs to lower
4 secs to raise

The greatest height of the glass is about 12" on the Chim and about 17" on the 406.

So a bit of maths based on the figures for raising the drivers windows on each car gives 2" per sec for the TVR and 4.25" per sec for the Pug.
Conclusion: My Chim windows are SLOW! And the runners have been sprayed with silicone.
I intend to fit relays in the near future.
SO, how long do yours take?
A 2005 calender could be the prize for the person with the slowest ones(to record their times on!!!!)

Drivers side - 3 seconds down, 4 seconds up.

Passenger side - 3 seconds down, 4.5 seconds up

All with egine off. With engine started you can knock half a second off those times!

I can see it now - next chimfest we can have electric window racing as a featured event with prizes.

I'm out in the tiv tomorrow and now Ive seen this thread I am going to have to measure my times. I suspect very long times for the drivers window , always accompanied by much grinding and growling. Do I get a prize for the noisiest window ?

I'm going to do the same - if I remember.

I know who has the quickest Tamora windows - that will be Jeremy (TVRCC Chairman). He seemed proud of that fact as well laugh

I've heard of a prize for the noisiest exhaust, but a window?
Try starting the engine, drounds out dodgy window noises.
Come on Claire, lets have your vital (electric window) statistics.
It would be good if a few more of you were sad enough to time your windows and post up the results. There have in the past been various posts about this topic, and this would establish once and for all what is "normal".
PS I KNOW that TVR's are not "normal", if they were I probably wouldn't have one in my garage!

This is a fascinating thread and feel I want to be part of it...it will put Tiv drivers in a new light for any outsiders reading...( like the fear of deliverance..the film), is this about how slow your windows are or are you all looking for a cure..I might be able to help?? By the way great thread to start..show no fear

Is it conducted with the engine running or not..?

What happens if its raining and the water lubes the runners..?

Are we having a TG style board with W and MM times as well..?

OMG yikes - I think my drivers side might be around 30 secs !!

I'll take some timings....just hope her indoors doesn't see me doing it as she already thinks I am an anorak where TVR's are concerned type

Okay, as a benchmark, my timings were with engine running, in dry conditions, pressing both switches at the same time...

How sad is this?

I'm going to check mine tomorrow! I know the driver's one is slow, and it even looks as if the outer door panel moves when it comes up... odd.

Following the scientific timing test, how should I do the silicone lubrication? Do I have to take the door apart, or do I just spray it along the top of the door when the window is both up and down, followed by lots of window movement to move it around??

My drivers side one is v.v.slow - prob about 30secs and it sometimes needs a helping hand to make it up at all.

I'm pretty sure something is jamming against it inside the door but haven't yet got around to taking it appart to see.

I measured mine with the engine at idle, dry conditions.
No prizes for cheating by using rain as lubrication!
Only pressed one button at a time because it would be difficult to measure both windows at once and I would have had to use the office clock as well as the kitchen one. Oh b*gg*r more mirrors involved!!!!!!!
I spray silicone into the runners and run the windows up and down a few times.
Then I spend the next half hour getting the surplus silicone off the glass and the paintwork....

Rich,
Rather than poke fun perhaps you might want to post a similar thing on the Griff forum, or perhaps you think there're not as sad as us.
We realise that there aren't many of you and because the Griff came out 3 years before the Chim some owners of the early cars might be too embarassed to post their times.........
