I'm having the same issues. I emailed them at support@talktalkbroadband.net and they denied any knowledge of the problem. They blamed BT because they subcontract the service to BT in my area!!
Total rubbish because the error messages I'm getting are indicating that their servers/remote computer is failing to respond.

Not necessarily - if there was a line fault then your PC wouldn't be able to talk to their server and you'd get the same message.
Despite it saying 'connected to remote computer, verifying username and password' and then timing out?
I would have thought that meant it was actually connecting up to a point?
My pc couldn't get on line a couple of weeks ago and I was told by a friend who had a similar problem that Talktalk had said their server was down for most of the country - hard to believe !
Giving it 24 hours I still couldn't connect and eventually after a 20 minute wait trying to get through to Customer services I spoke over the next 8 hours to firstly someone somewhere in India, then Bombay and finally South Africa, no one could tell me the problem but I would receive a call within 2 to 4 days from the Technical Department (who I thought I had been speaking to - after 20 mins. waiting for Technical Dept. you are transferred back to Customer services !), needless to say no phone call ever came.
In the end I had to call in a local IT Technician who "removed" Talktalk completely and then reinstalled it, going firstly back to a restore point.(cost to me £35)
I was told that Talktalk and BT (my previous provider)can't communicate together on the pc and "everything " relating to BT has to be removed (Talktalk don't tell you that)- you could try all this and see what happens.
To be fair BT were pretty good and it was only the "saving" that made me change.
At the moment its working OK - fatal last words !! - I hope not.
Talktalk customer services - atrocious !!!!!!!

I helped a mate set up his email with TalkTalk Broadband recently. Its internet mail as opposed to POP3 but, as long as it works, my mate would be happy.
The problem seems to be that it logs in fine, it sends and receives mail when it feels like it and then for some inexplicable reason it reports the user as no longer logged in...
Then its back to logging in all over again..
Anyone else experienced this ?
And anyone got any good suggestions for a decent (free) POP3 account ?

SS2 - mine had similar e mail problems to what you describe but after removing everything to do with the previous provider, all is now OK.
Have a look in "Control Panel",then "Add and Remove" just in case anything is still lurking from the past in there.
I'm on Outlook Express and its all now OK.
Mind you!- for some unexplicable reason, although Iv'e selected "never switch off", the broadband connection will suddenly disconnect but you can instantly reconnect again !?
Hi Schnozz - jumping Forums? - hope you have better luck with Talktalk than I did initially, two friends had it at the same time as me and didn't (haven't) had any problems (apart from what I mentioned before)

Hey mate - Back after being away for a bit and if I ever finish decorating, I'll pop round if you have any problems and raid your beer cellar at the same time...
Bu66er that, I'm sick of decorating - we'll catch up soon anyway..

Well, you didn't include that little nugget of information 1st time around, did you?
