Peter (SOLID) recently pointed out there's a white sticker on the door edge of Corvettes which states the official max' safety weight of the vehicle; its GVWR. The GVWR includes the weight of the car plus the weight of passengers, fuel, cargo and any accessories added. In other words, the difference between the car's curb weight shown in the owners manual (with all fluids, including full fuel) and the GVWR shown on the door is the max' load the car should carry. Looking at a few C5s there are variations in the GVWR from one car to another. What does yours say? Anyone know why they vary?

My Euro '99 coupe states 1703 kg (3755 lb) compared with curb weight of 1472 kg (3246 lb).

Mu 2001 UK spec car states the capacity weighton the sticker; 181KG, so a bit more than yours. Seems a bit low to me!!!! Never looked at this before. Must be plenty of people about over 90KG

My 2002 Z06 has a GVWR of 1612kg, and capacity weight of 181 kg (same as Yellowshark454). You're right about it seeming a bit low; I can almost make that by myself! Good job herinsidethedoors is a lightweight.

My 2002 says 1745KG which must be the maximum weight of the vehicle loaded. Empty mine weighs 1440kg according to the local weighbridge.

Yes, that describes what GVWR means as per my opening post but doesn't explain why there are so many different figures for apparently identical Vettes. Any ideas out there?

Possibly the Z06 has certain components pared down to save weight? There are diferences between a US spec an Euro-spec Vette such as the Euro wheels being mounted 1/2" further inboard than the US model but you wouldn't think it would make a difference.

We had this conversation at the last Sussex meet too, where wqe discovered that of the C5's present most had differing values. Hmmm.

They can get more gallons of fuel in the car in the States which probably explains the difference.

One would have thought a barrister would have realised that the lack of a smiley on the message represented the already huge smile present when I typed it That would be a gotcha then
