Just spoke to Verdi. Member of staff I spoke to was very helpful and polite.

What is the general consensus on the cars they have in stock? Any recent buyers here?

I was particularly interested in the warranty they offer. Apparently, they offer a nut and bolt warranty for around £2000 and a lesser warrantee for £1,200.

These sums seem quite reasonable. However, I am taking this with a pinch of salt because he also said F355's are "as reliable as Porsches" and shouldn't be much over £1,000 as running costs!

Questions:
1. Are these warrantees needed?
2. Are there better warrantees out there?
3. I was told that if the engine needs to be replaced under the comprehensive one, it will be done. That true?
4. What are the thoughts on LHD examples? They have a few...

Other than that, I am heading around for a test drive over the next couple of weekends! I really hope the car grips me... I have loved it for years!

I am particuarly keen to find out how "slow" the car is under 4000 revs, and how quick it is above that.

A good warranty is priceless, and also illusive and hard to find. Who underwrites Verdi's warranty? What are the exclusions? What is the claim limit ?

His cars will be Sale Or Return generally, so depends on their previous history and condition. All said, Karl has a good reputation and people do go back to him

Regarding purchasing... If you can hold off for a month or so I think we'll see prices falling post summer. Remember around Nov/Dev RHD UK 355s were seen around 35k . Dealers are starting to dump stock now - so would haggle hard

Good advice there. I'll buy in the depths of winter then... However, am worried it will only be the dogs out for sale then.

Question: Is there any figure on the odometer I should stay away from. Most Verdi cars are fairly high up there...

Expensive parts if things go wrong.

3 Years ago a new door handle was £400 + VAT.

Hence the warrantee...

As Johnny says - just make sure you know what is and isn't covered.

But you know Murphy's Law - the day the warranty runs out then things start to go wrong :-)

S

Strangely enough, that day will also coincide with my buying a nice reliable Honda Accord! Will definitely have a look see at the details of the warranty.

Anyone with knowledge of warrantys please pipe up...

Cant stress this enough. Start with the assumption that the warranty will have loop holes and be worded in an overcomplex way to confuse you, read the documentation very carefully and understand what is covered under WHAT circumstances(!!). Its not just a matter of a list of stuff that is cover and a list of stuff that is not. Its sometimes about the nature of the failure, whether you (as the owner/driver) contributed to the failure etc.

Ignore the sales chat... that will just screw your head. Beware of claim limits around £5K, and number of claims limited. I tried to claim on my warranty around about 3 times in 1 year, nothing was paid in full. The next year I would have had a claim running into 10K... but I was told most of this would not have been covered either... on technicalities.

Ade pretty much summed it up perfectly. These warranty companies are on to a good thing.

Who fancies starting up an exotic car warranty company with me? Wouldn't make any friends, but we'd make a truck full of money

Yes, I firmly intend to do this. Sales chat is of no consequence to me, unless they sign the notes I make at the end!

As for Performance Car Insurance... I'm in!
