One of my bday presents was a takeaway box thing with a make your own website. Seeing as I am a total numpty when it comes to computers is this any good? The box contains nothing other than a certificate thing, a password and an instructions manual. Allegedly it provides for 150mb space and 2gb bandwidth per month (whatever that does???)

After a year they want £2.49 a month to keep it going - which pisses me off a little to have a debit with spme monkey.

Now I do quite like hosting the odd picture and my free webspace of 15mb with BT (and soon to be talktalk) has proved ok for the odd picture. 150mb would mean I could host a bit more and the odd video but I dont like this signing up thing. Is it just suitable for the bin or worth using for a year? Can I "transfer" the site elsewhere in a few easy moves after a year if I can get more for less?

Whilst 150mb isn't a huge amount, it's enough for a fair few pictures.. not so many videos tho (maybe 1-2 plus some pix)

You should read the small print re: moving it away... you might find there is some astronomical fee to transfer / retain the domain name at the end of the period..

to put it in perspective, click the banner up top and you could have 1GB Disk space and 30GB Bandwidth for just £33 a yr or 2GB disk space and 100GB Bandwidth for £66 a yr..

These 'in a box' products tend to rely on making a bit of money from the 'nice relative' who bought it upfront, but stinging you down the line when your free period expires.
