Hi

I have found I have a small smudge on all my photos, its towards the left hand side of the photo in the centre (vertically).

I've tried a couple of lenses and the dot is in the same place, so I assume its on the mirrors inside.

The camera is a D70 and I have tried wipping the mirrors inside that are easily accesible, i.e. the one on the top and the first one that moves up. However, the dot is still there, so either it is on the back of one of them or in another place. There is a small mirror behind the main one (hope this makes sense) but it moves when i gently move the main mirror up. Meaning i cant get in to clean it, it also seems very fragile.

How do others clean the inside of their cameras to remove these marks? I have tried the rocket blower to no avail.

I also have a small cansiter of compressed air that I got with camera to clean it but it seems VERY VERY fierce and dont fancy pointing it inside the camera! Will this probably damage it?

The dot isnt a problem to photoshop if its on grass or sky, but ruins the photo if its on an area of detail!

Thanks

Stuart

if it is on the mirror then its no big deal as it should not appear on your actual images. if it is on your actual imaes then its dust on the sensor

Hi poah,

Thanks for the reply, its in the same place on every photo. How do you clean the sensor? Or is this something I would have to take into a shop to have fixed?

When you tried the rocket blower I presume you were pointing it at the mirror, it definitely sounds like you have dust on your sensor so you'll need to clean that. Have a good read of your handbook and see what it says, this may help too, though you could replace steps 6 and 7 with a couple of blows from you rocket blower first before ordering an Arctic Butterfly. Just make very sure that you don't go too near the sensor, no need to push the nozzle of the rocket blower any further into the body than where the mirror is or touch anything inside the body.

Hi guys,

thanks for the advice, its much appreciated.

I went through that website using the mirror lock up (which I didnt even know was a feature). After a few blasts with the rocket blower the mark is gone

Thanks again!
