They have a 12k margin in that car..now lean over, bring out the vaseline and take it like a man
no way - not at that price level surely
reckon they only have 8k at the 80-90k level
Most of the garage's costs are fixed. It doen't cost a lot more to sell a £80k car then a £30k car. Think them paying c. £18k for it sounds possible. And a window price of £30k, as pointed out here, makes it the cheapest 996 at an OPC in the country, so why go any lower. I bet it goes quickly. And I bet they take high £20k's for it.

There you go then. That's why they can put a £12k margin on it.

And remember-this guy will not be getting out of bed for less than a 3k margin (gross) either..course he will be sorry when the engine blows up and he is facing a writ for a new one

It's not my cup of tea but that's an awful lot of car for the money. I certainly hope the engine doesn't blow up as he drives off the forecourt, but even if it does it's not the end of the world. Good independants can rebuild them, some even had a stock of new/exchange units. Jon Mitchells garage and Autofarm can even sleeve them and make 4 litre versions that are stronger than original.
At the end of the day an engine is just one of the consumables. As long as the chassis is sound, anything can be replaced or repaired. £70k to £30k (or even £23k) in 8 years is amazingly low depreciation. My S2 went from £40k to 12k in the same time period.
I'm getting bored with all this talk of money on Pistonheads - it is still a car forum isn't it?
Who knows what reconditioning has taken place on this 996 and its condition.
It will sell quickly to somebody that wants a hassle free purchase, full dealer back up, full warranty and probably cheap finance.
If it needed a full service, a bit of fettling, set of tyres, road tax, opc inspection an warranty then thats probably £4k's worth. I guess they paid low 20's and have a reasonable margin in the car to pay for the showroom.
I expect its probably a minter or the OPC would have traded it out as they do with most older 996's or 993s etc.

I worked for several car dealers over the past few years.
That smart building, the pretty receptionist and the spotless showroom (not even to mention all the company cars) cost a lot of money. When you buy a car from the dealer you pay for those overheads. Your mouth will hang open if you knew what a proper dealership has to make just to cover overheads.
Yes I bought from a OPC. Why? The knowledge of the workshop, parts back-up and solid reputation was vital for me in a very expensive (for me) car purchase.
Take your chances. Just remember: Cowboys don't cry, especially not in front of their horses!

All this talk of 'buy OPC' .. I don't get it .................
Even a seemingly top notch car that's been looked over and warrantied by Porsche is only as good as how it's spent it's years with the previous owners..Sure they can spot a dud, but I've read plenty of horror stories on this site alone , of obvious stuff these 'pro's' have missed.
What you're getting at the end of the day is no more than if you sourced a car privately , got it professionally checked . brought it for the 111 , and then used this to hammer the price even further .. Once it's OPC warrantied , you then have yourself the equivalent of an OPC forecourt queen , with up to £8k left in your arse pocket.
What am I missing here??

I would bet my horse that a good independent cares far more for its reputation than any OPC who hides behind the veil of glass/aluminium and pretty blondes! I would much rather save £7k (which pays for these) and give an idependent a reasonable profit for the risk that they are taking.
When I bought my 996 C4 tip in 2003 I paid £37.5k for it. The OPCs had virtually identical cars for £45k. The chap who sold the car to the idependent had been offered £33k by the OPCs for it and £34k was given by the independent. I therefore gave the idenependent £3.5k profit. In return I got a car that was checked over, HPI clear, financeable and with a no quibble 6000mile warranty. I spent around £750 bringing up to OPC levels of prep- nose cone and bonnet respray, 2 wheels refurbed and full 4 wheel alignment. The car needed new oxygen sensors, a coolant tank and new anti roll bar bushes during that time. The indie (based in a cheapo crappy showroom in North London) sorted this out without a murmour. I ended up selling the car a year later for £35k. If I had bought the car from the OPC I would be facing a £10k loss! In this scenario I lost £3k cover 1 year and 6k miles...phew
