AD,

I have just bought my 355. I put together a 25 page document on tips and hints that I gathered from PH over the last couple of years. Email me through my profile if you would like a copy.

PS Saw your query re the warranty on these, again after much research I decided not to go for it, basically becasue of the people I spoke to seemed to be saying the same thing, ie wasnt worth the paper it is written on.

Cheers,
BJ

The honest answer would be that I am looking for a replacement for my 944 T Cab or a possible addition to my collection. I usually spend at least 6 months researching and looking around for the right machine, so I expect to buy in Feb or so, though it is tempting to put off the purchase to October 07 for financial reasons.

I am considering seriously:
1. TVR Tamora/T350- concerns about reliability
2. Porsche 964 Turbo 2 - No concerns, I know it will be stonking! Just wondering if want another Porsche.
3. Ferrari 355 GTB - Always wanted one. Now that I live in a gated mews, the have nots of the world will be kept away from it. Buying the Ferrari will involve getting rid of Porsche and getting additional "sensible" car. Though I must confess my idea of sensible is the Porsche (I moved house in it!!).

I really need to try them all out (very different cars) and see what floats my boat. I have always liked "older" and slightly rarer machines...and the TVR's don't really check that box in years but they have a feel to them that matches what I am looking for!

That's my two pence.

Yup driving them is the only way to find out.....

Before i get shot down following views are all IMHO but

1. Tvr's - great looks, sound and bespoke feel about them - however the reliability issues tarnish a wonderful car.....structurally not as safe as a 355 or the porsche - absolutley no comparison ... people say driving aids are namby pamby blah blah but given the choice of ABS and airbags many would take them.... plus having had a smack in both of my TVR's I would not want a high speed crash in a TVR....... raw power wise however TVR just feel more punchy - prob jsut the power to weight ratio ...but they do feel good adn they are lovely bits of kit from a design aspect

2. Awesome car - very quick and still one of the best looking 911 turbos around (again IMHO) nice and chunky - trouble with it is that it is VERY basic inside.....very..... reliability on this is great though

3. 355 - best looking car of its era ---in fact still is one of the best looking ferraris out there..interior a little basic, handling superb, a little underpowered but sublime all round package makes this car jsut poetry in motion...the feedback, the suspension, the handling , the smooth power delivery, the sound...oh the sound...... however it has its downsides too - poor brakes, basic interior, expensive maintenance(good old cambelts) and expensive parts..... in fact rip off parts thanks to theiving Fiat upping all prices on F car parts.....

I know this is daft but i am bored so I kind of did this - just from my driving experience of them not what is read on paper all scores kind of out of 10 where I am not being biased !!!

Looks Power Handling Braking Interior Reliabililty Maintenance(main dealer) Sound
TVR 8 8 7 6 9 6 9 8
T350

Porsche 7 9 8 9 6 9 6 7
964T2

Ferrari 9.9 7.5 9 8 7.5 8 8 10
355

Yes that is right - it cost more for me to service and looka fter my cerbera in 10 months than it did over 2yrs in the 355.... so dont think cheaper UK sports cars are cheaper to look after - oh nope....anyway I am off to hide under a rock now

Good post!

The only reason I don't like the Porsche (as you pointed out) is the interior, which really is a bit basic. Point to point though I reckon the Porsche (though 5 years older) is still the (much?) faster car.

However, the reason I want the 355 is because of the music it makes and the looks. Plus, I really really doubt its as slow as some people make out! I am looking for nero black... probably GTB or Spider.

Basher, as per your profile, what did you do to make your spider quicker and faster?
