I never knew a broken finger could be so expensive!

£1062 for a new clutch and slave cylinder.

Once again - big ups to Andy @ APM for sorting it so quickly (and comparatively cheaply)

So in 2 months of Cerb ownership:

2 new tyres
1 steering rack refurb
1 service
1 ACT big bore system
1 clutch
1 slave cylinder
1 aircon regas

Costs currently running at about £3500

On the upside. I love driving it!

If you dont mind spilling the beans, what was the cost to have the ACT exhaust fitted? Glad your enjoying the car, hopefully you will get some trouble free motoring for a few days now

What exhaust system did you have before the big bore system and how does it compare?

Exhaust was £495 + VAT.

Fitting is FOC when you purchase the system from APM.

One of the previous owners had had a "sports" exhaust fitted, which although being very loud, was not of particularly good quality.

The ACT system is marginally quieter (but still damn loud) and has a much better tone to it. I haven't been able to drive the car enough since it was fitted, but it doesn't seem to have made a huge difference to performance over what was already there.....

Oh - and it looks wicked!

And it's quieter than the Sports Pipes?? Can't be, must be a bit of the placebo effect kicking in, it won't make that much of a difference to the performance as you need to go to a slightly larger bore, but build quality and the sound are a massive improvement over std or sports systems.

There's presumably a formula with which one can determine what bore ought to be used - anyone?

There's definitely less popping and banging, and it's less boomy - although there were some daft oversized pipe trims on the last exhaust which I think caused that.

The car is already putting out 391bhp, so i wasn't expecting much difference to performance.

As you say, build quality is excellent.

Did i mention that it sounds nice???

Probably depends on the state of tune and set up of the car, i.e. the more highly tuned the engine is then the more benefit that can be gained from a larger bore exhaust, for me it was a case of test and trial, but the 2.5" bore certainly made a difference. Scrooloose's cerb should be seeing minor gains as a result of the new exhaust but wouldn't probably notice them on the road. When my system was fitted we noticed a significant difference in fueling which was adjusted to suit.

Glad you like it Scooloose.
Jules, Ref pipe diameter, bigger isn't always better, we could make the exhaust in any size inc 2.5" but having done back to back testing and also taking into consideration the manifold set up & primary diameter (these are limiting factors) & taken professional advice we have opted for 2.25" on my car made biggest gain at 5k rpm, 2.5" might give slightly better peak BHP but i always consider the entire torque curve when upgrading, it does depend on the application but for me and most drivers 3-6k rpm is the important bit.
As for noticing it on the road, very difficult we are talking about a very small %

Hi Tim,

I don't want to dispute what you are saying, but in the case of a tuned Cerb it is. I also did a bit of research using both real and simulator techniques (I know that simulators can be contentious, but flow rate is flow rate..), it was apparent that by going to the 2.5" bore that we would yield the greatest returns, however this is based on a highly tuned Cerb such as mine (e.g. above say 390bhp), the gains were fantastic as can be seen in the thread I posted when it was finally fitted and tested (link to the thread is below), remember that this is just the back section and does not include the intermediate pipes which are yet to be fitted, my car also has the linked de-cats which may also be helping the further increase in power and torque all the way across the range , it most certainly wasn't about peak power / torque or I wouldn't have bothered going to so much trouble, for me it had to show gains across most if not all of the rev range, it was a win win situation. The added bonus is the sound which is probably similar to your big bore exhaust, which is much deeper and bassier than the sports exhaust, mine has a distinct change of tone from 3500rpm-4500rpm which to me sounds fantastic.........

I thought you'd changed the whole system, I predict that if you go to 2.5" from the decats you'll loose some torque over 2.25", i have found that replacing the original rear box for the big bore tails is very positive, infact supprising (just like the power increases in your dyno graph).
Basically big cerbs benefit from big exhausts, that's been proven by both of us
BTW I'm pretty sure that Daggarts 440+bhp monster is on tiddly sports tails (as are many others)scratchchin

Tim if you have different systems then feel free to check them out on mine, it'll help me make up my mind what system stays on hehe. Hopefully the car should be together in the next week or so. Paul will be playing with it then , I'm away at present but hope to have it up and running as a complete car for when I get back

Had a nose at yours on the ramps whilst you were away to check out the exhaust lick, btw looks like your outriggers may need another coat of paint soon rolleyes

Possibly, I've not yet fitted the intermediate pipes, but I'll post up the results once I have. I can't see how going from a 2.125" to 2.25" will show a gain and then going to 2.5" will show a loss, but we'll see.

That's interesting, so you are saying that on the ACT Big Bore system the big bore intermediate pipes takes away power and torquescratchchin, if so then we'd be better off just going for the rear section? I still think that my system will make a further gain with the larger bore intermediate pipes, so we'll see. I've been right with the correct dimensions on the Whirlwind induction kit and the rear exhaust system, so fingers crossed on the intermediate pipes. If I am wrong then I am wrong, I can't have my cake and eat it all the time....

I would say that the majority of tuned Cerbs out there are still on std or sports exhausts......plenty of potential for more power and more sales......... but 2.5" all the wayhehe
