LOL no luckily not, it was myself and Plug I think who spoke to you on Bridge before the start and it was Plug who was pirouetting around later on I believe. I was in the green one but had to drop out early and head for home.

If it isn't being too nosey, what's the road tax and insurance likely to cost?

I heard road tax would be something like 2300 Euro a year?

Road tax will be about €1300.00 a year, not sure yet if I'll do it for 6 or 12 months, not sure what thy're like in snow and frost but I can imagine.

Insurance is not going to change if I just transfer from the R-34, but that costs €1000.00 already.

And I'm 37, full licence, full NCB and no points.

I'm probably going to get a part-time motor trader insurance policy for about €1500.00 and that will cover myself and her indoors to drive anything up to a value of €60,000.00 at any time and will give Business, social, domestic and pleasure cover.

The thing that's really pissin me off is the VRT (the stupid tax we have here when you register a vehicle in Ireland for the first time) and this is calculated at approx. 30% of the OMSP of the car here.

I've been given an estimate of about €6000.00 for this.


On the other hand, I might just register it at a mates address in the UK and leave it on the UK plates for as long as I can get away with it.

It's a 4.2.

I looked at loads of cars over the last 8 weeks or so and this was one of the best I saw.

It came down to this one or one other and my mind was made up once the other one sold last week.


I'm just waiting for confirmation that the V5 (I think that's what it's called) is fully in order as it has been transferred off a private plate to a standard one.

If everything is in order I have a spin over with a local trucker tomorrow evening and should be driving it back on Friday.

Unless you are a genuine trader and have premises of some sort I would be very wary of trade insurance policies. My brother had one and had a new Evo 8 stolen, didn't get a bean.

Cost him about 25 k iirc.

Yeah, I've been told about that by someone locally tonight.

I have to ring the insurance company in the morning again to see if they have just covered me for "road risk" or if I'm covered at home as well.

I'm a "genuine" part-time trader in so much as I do go through a number of cars here and do end up with more than one regularly.

But the premises is the issue for me, everything is locked in at night but not in a compound.

Not sure how it is over the sea, but in the UK if the government think you are a part time trader, your tax and personal liability on the cars that you trade significantly changes. I really wouldn't want to get into that sort of ballpark...
