Let me guess?
Mission critical, has to be working... stuffed full of business information.

Too cheap to spec RAID. Or to cheap to call you when the first drive in the array went bang ages ago?
I'll bet it doesn't have a UPS either right?

Its running the most bullsh*t database you've ever seen... access with loads of hard-coded paths in it so machines can't be renamed, and the c: has to be shared yikes Written by god knows who god knows how long ago... got to pop the question in the morning as to when the backup was last run... old drive currently in fridge hehe

Wow, it sounds like something I'd have written when I was 10 or so. How on earth is something like that still bloody going after all this time?

Good luck with the drive, if they're running that sort of software I'd wager a pint the answer is "sometime ago" or "what's a backup then?".... I'd wager a pack of crips that if they have backed up... the tape/disks don't work.

I'm really kicking myself for not sorting this out sooner i.e. before this happened Ah well gonna leave it sucking on windows update tonight, and in the morning the old drive will spin up first time, then I'm going to ghost the bitch... twice

So you mean having it display "Your moron! LEFT CLICK!" isn't considered a puka error then?

Or like the answer I got once when I asked who changed the tapes in the drive on a remote server; "Change? The tape?" - They'd been writing nightly backups to the same Exabyte cartridge for a couple of years. I shouldn't think there was a single recoverable byte on the damn thing.

It turned out there was a batch file scheduled to dump it up to the server every night, that was actually set up by me about a year ago that I completely forgot about paperbag Still had a fun time picking up umpty-million versions of applets, templates & fonts from random floppys, various macros that require certain printer names to be present, random drive mappings etc. etc. Loads of fun, not...
