Hi,

Friend of my have set up a wireless network at home. Wireless ADSL Router D-Link DI-524, three PC clients with Belkin Wireless PCI G cards and an Acer laptop with build in wireless card.
64-bits WEP encryption, all computers connecting fine, no problems at all
until…..
I’ve set up a new system XP SP2 on one of the PC’s and guess what is stopped to work with the Wireless router.
The PC can see the wireless network, it kindly asks for the key and the try to get the address from the router but with no success.
Watching the statistics the Wireless Network card sends packets to the router and the router stays quiet. The rest of PCs works fine.

Funny enough I’ve been using the problematic PC with another wireless access point with no problem.
Is there anything that I should do to make it work again? Is any cache or settings that I need to change on the PC/router?
Help?

Many thanks for the answers

Mario

Off the top of my head... are you entering the WEP key in hex? XP is silly and needs it in that format rather than a passphrase.

It's only a four point switch - and it sounds like you're trying to connect five PCs to it?

First thing I would to is temporarily turn off WEP to see if that is what is causning the problem. If the machine can connect with it off then onto the next step.

If connects ok then it is probably one of two things 1.you are somehow enetering the hex string wrong, make sure no gaps same case and check it against what the router thinks it is not the other machines. 2 update the drivers for the wireless card in the laptop.

see how you go.

try installing this hotfix :-

www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=17D997D2-5034-4BBB-B74D-AD8430A1F7C8&displaylang=en

A recent MS update changed TCPIP.SYS which impacted (badly) anything that uses IP looback adapters, which in turn hurts Wireless etc.

This happened to me two days ago (not sure what caused the sudden update / change) but installing the patch and rebooting has helped a lot.
