How long to get a V5 from the DVLA?

My plans to collect my Cerbera tomorrow have been knocked back a bit.
The car was on a private plate and has been transferred back to it's original.
The V5 has not been returned to the seller yet by the DVLA.
He's gone down to their offices in Swansea and they couldn't give it to him over the counter.
Have any of you been in this position before and how long does it normally take to get this sorted?

If you trust him then you could get a full receipt stating all details of the sale (note chassis numbers etc) and leave with that on the understanding that he sends off the V5 as soon as he gets it back; he has to send it off anyway to change it into your name, you only get a small tear off strip to keep in case the new one in your name doesn't appear.
I did this when selling my last car, buyer came to my house so knew where I lived etc and he was ok with this. I had also photocopied the v5 before sending it off for the plate change however so that the buyer could see number of owners etc.

Was the same with mine JJ, I kept the personal plates on it until the guy got the new V5 through, (with the orig number), he then sent the V5 to me which I signed and sent off.
Then I sent him his personal plates back and put the originals back on.
No probs.

Personal plates have been the bain of my life when selling a car and getting a log book which is why i never put it on my last car 
usually takes 4 weeks at the minimum to get back, fortunately the last car i sold the owner trusted me enough and i forwarded it when i got it

He does mean he is just waiting on the v5 does he, not the letter confirming he can swap the plates back?
If it is just the V5 then I really would go ahead and take it as long as long as you get a receipt. At the end of the day you can apply to the DVLA directly for a V5, you have both the Car and the receipt so the risk is not great. If you wait it might be quick but equally it could drag on for weeks.

I did this when buying mine, but i only did this as i knew who he was PH.

It's a 4.2.
I looked at several cars and this was the cleanest of them and had a good paper trail for what was done and it's had virtually all the potential problem areas attended to.
Plus it's had one owner for the last six years and he seems very particular about it, so much so that we had to wait until a shower of rain had passed before we could take it out for a drive.

But I've been pricing insurance in the UK and i'm being quoted stupid figures for it as I'm not bringing a NCB with me.
Is £1300.00 normal?

If you can live with limited miles you can get that down a lot, I use my no claims on another car so have the cerb on a limited 5000 mile policy as a second car where no claims don't really come into play anyway - pay about £480.

The HPI was ok but it says on the paperwork the seller got back from the DVLA that he shouldn't sell the car 'til he gets the V5.
Looks like it will just be a case of wait.

Gulp! - er no. I paid £408 with 7K mileage, £500 excess or £700 excess on a trackday with Mannings.
That's only slightly more than our old Espace
