Just trying to fathom out that my 997 S is much better
than my mates 360 (manual)...For some reason the back end of
the ferrari steps out much more than my 997 (especially in sport mode)..
especially on tighter bends/corners..
The pick up over 120 mph seems to suggest that the 997 has the edge on
the 360...Anyone owned both (maybe not at the same time)? the acceleration from 0 - 100 is about the same....
Reason for this I've been offered a very cheap 360 against my 997 S

I would say dynamically the 997 is a better car than the 360, its also more of an everyday car. The 360 will cost more to run over a couple of years too. Performance wise not a lot in it I suspect, I mean how often do you accelerate away from anyone at 120mph ?
But the "its a Ferrari" factor is a big pull for a lot of people.
I drove one recently & annoyed the salesman by declaring that my 996TT would destroy it in a straight line or on any twisty road you care to mention. Its not as fast or capable as the TT and yet......I still quite fancy one......

For a start there's no such thing as a cheap 360, I've just paid £3000 to extend the warranty for a year. (The car is 3 years old, apparently next year I won't be able to extend the full warranty, it will be a cut-down one.) Compare this with the equivalent Porsche one at £720.
It makes my 996 seem boring (the 996 has the sport exhaust and sport suspension) but not in terms of outright speed, but in how it does it, the balance of the car, the way it turns in, the noise (ok, it is a spider, which helps!), it just feels more special. If you don't get that then forget it.
I've driven a 997S on the Millbrook day and found it just as boring. The only 997 I would buy is the GT3.

I was very disappointed when I went a 360.
The build quality was awful and it rode like an old cart at low speeds.
Wouldn’t want one for the same running costs as the Porsche, never mind Ferrari costs.
I’d rather keep a low profile in a Porsche.
Never been in 430, but have heard Ferrari’s moved the game on nicely.
It's just a toy imo really

get one mate! I think we should both get them for FOS next year!!
The 997S is a better built car and much better all round but there is something about having a Ferrari that stirs the soul!
Dont get me wrong I love me 996 TT too but there is something in my head nagging me to get one (apart from RoShambo that is!)
Cheers
