Er....the guys at Raceshack have just run my car on the dyno and I seem to have a slight problem with my rear tyres, i.e. they start spinning on the dyno at 113MPH yikes

The car is now producing (after fitting the new SPEC Stage 5 clutch) 625lbs/ft of torque compared with 540lbs/ft with the old slipping one

Given with the old slippy one was producing 513BHP at the rear wheels I suspect it is now somewhere over 600BHP at the rear tyres but can't prove this until I get some new sticky tyres!!

See you at the Fairmile tomorrow night providing I can keep it on the black stuff.........

BTW Anyone got a recommendations as to which tyres to go for? MichaelZ16 is getting some of the Toyo's but I am thinking about either the Mickey Thomson ET Streets or Yokohama Advan A048's.

Depends on whether you want to go round corners or not Nige. Would have thought it would be worth you investing in a set of drag radials like the ET streets, probably on a second set of rear wheels so that you can bolt them on for things like the 1/4 mile challenge, then bolt on other tyres for circuit/road use. Having tried ZR1forfun's drag radials on my car and found the huge difference they make, I think they're a must for you and your torque.

By the way, have you got a line lock installed ?

good numbers Nigel !
Kumhos are the prefered tyre for high HP vipers both here and in the US, they are good for both road and most track stuff

I've got Kumho's on it, but the road rather than race tyres.......

are you using the ECSTA V500's (something like that) ?

these are what Joel used on track at silverstone last weekend, TOTB handling and his 216mph top speed runs, pretty versatile good for road use to,
DOT approved

Not much downforce from the rear wing when you're parked on the dyno I guess.

Mind you, if you're using those boys in Tewkesbury the rollers are probably still covered in mud from when they last dyno'd one of our Unimogs!

Don't think Connor and Matty would be too happy if I tried running a 1/4 on their dyno!!

I will be running the car at Santa Pod next week however!

I agree Steve about the downforce, but having hazed the tyres all the way down the runway at Shoreham I think I am going to have to invest in a set of more sticky rears.......did you see Connor and Matty featured on "Campervan Crisis" on Tuesday night on Realtime Discovery (Channel 250 on sky) at 9 p.m.?

I was under the impression that Race Shack had a Mustang Dyno, on which you can run a 1/4 with a transbrake launch..

That was certainly what made us want to use their services in the first instance... however I think we're probably going to use Peter Knight's engine dyno over the winter..

It is indeed a Mustang Dyno, wasn't aware that you could do a 1/4 mile simulation on it......

I've seen video of dragsters in the states running 1/4's on Mustang Dyno's... Quite impressive, and apparently accurate to 1 tenth..

Why not try Nitto 555Rs, they come in circuit or drag tread pattern, I used drags on the rear and circuit on the front of my Camaro.
This made for a great street/strip/circuit combination.
Speak to North Hants Tyres, or Adrenaline Race.

The Nitto555R's arent bad at all...but the Kumho tyres would prob be a better all rounder as they have stiffer sidewalls.
That said, I think that Nitto also do a stiff sidewall soft tyre too now, the 555RII

Why not try a different dyno ?? Dyno Dynamics have excellent knurled rollers which provide a lot of grip.

Either that or a DynaPack hub dyno ( although my car had issues on the one I used, maybe they need to upgrade )

And more importantly....E marked, so totally legal in the UK.

Nitto's and many of the other US based tyres, are DOT marked, but not E marked, so strictly speaking, not legal for use here on the roads.

I've been stopped by the police enough times and had the tyres inspected to know that Nittos are fine for use on UK public highways. If they are DOT marked, then they are accepted as being good enough for use in the UK, rahter like a Corvette that's been imported - it's built to accepted standards so is fine for over here. Also, MOT garages have had no problems with passing Nittos in reality so long as there is enough tread.

The Kumho's I currently have on the front of the Camaro (still got 555Rs on the rear) after wearing out the Nittos create much more understeer than the Nitto 555s I had before, as can be attested to by my colleague at work after I took him round Brands Hatch (the green bits as well as the black bits!!).

Another cheaper alternative is to use some tyre softener fluid, which you brush onto the tyres and leave overnight, hey presto, soft tyres in the morning. Speak to Webster race Engineering or Demon tweeks, I'm sure either of them will have this stuff in stock.

Do any of the C6 Z06 owners know where we can get replacement tyres without paying Stratstone/BM prices?

Or is that something else to add to our growing container-load of stuff we'll be shipping over?

I read on the US Corvette Forum that Michelin have announced that they are going to be making OEM sized Pilot Sport Cups, which is excellent news. I just wonder how long they will take to come over here...

Try Ian Goss Services must be cheaper than main dealers!
I think Stratstones do hold stock of Z06 & C6 Tyres. Do you need a set already you must be having too much fun!
