Caught Speeding - Info Required
Discussion
Travelling northbound M1 10:30pm Sunday 23rd September. North of Sheffield.
Followed by a police car for approx. 5 miles (unknown - should be more observant, I know). Stopped. Shown digital readout giving average speed of 114mph. Device was fitted in central console of the police car. Police told me that they had "two reference points".
Told "this may fo to court".
Will this result in a ban, points and or fine? If it''s a ban, then what''s the best guess on length. If it does go to court, and I "don''t need to attend", is this wise, or am I much better going and taking the slap in person?
I have 3 points (SP60) dated 01/11/97. Are these still valid, and will they impact on any outcome?
All or any info is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.
Sorry bad news !!!
Ban almost certainly, I would expect a min of 8-12 weeks plus fine but this is all up to the magistrates on the day and will depend on any defence or mitigation you may have.
The points from 97 will be seen by the magistrates after you have been found guilty (if you are of course
) they stay visible on a license for 3 yrs but on your driving history print out from DVLA for 5 yrs.
As for appearing in person I think you will have no choice as a Guilty by post plea will not be accepted and you will be summonsed to appear in person (so you can be banned
)
So bad news all round I'd prepare for the worst, good news is if it's just speed your ok they could have gone for a dangerous/reckless charge at that speed so not too bad.
Good Luck

The words head, dik, fool, spaz and others come to mind. Your going down like a cheap pair of tights. Bradders your such a queer.
You should get mirrors put on your car so that you can look behind you. They are a great new invention!
Another tip is when you see a car with glowing stripes, think twice! it may be a police car. Police cars tend to also have flashing lights and two men inside wearing uniforms.

Well, thanks to Hutcho and Mel for the advice - even if it is all bad news.
Will try and come up with a reasonable line of defense, but no doubt I'll get the full benefit of our lovely justice system.
As to the reply from bender - well what can I say? I thank you for your constructive whit. With humour like that why hide your bushell behind anonymity?? You could make a living on the stage.
quote:If you were actually stopped by a plod, that counts as NIP served. The first thing you will receive will be the summons which could take up to 6 months (typically 3 in my experience).
Am I right in thinking that I should hear by post within two weeks of a date that I should appear in court, and if I don't hear within two weeks, then they cannot prosecute? If I've totally misunderstood, then I apologise for wasting your good time.
