Hi There

I have a soon to be one year old 450 Chimaera, does anyone know or have any views on the best insurance company to use at renewal this year?

thanks for your help!

If you've owned a car like this before then insurance through the TVR car club is quite good apparently. I tried, but they said I need to have owned a car of this class (Chimaera 4.0) for at least a year before they would consider me.

People seem to get good deals from Tesco insurance these days too.

Good luck

The simple and standard answer to all "who is the cheapest insurer" is to let your fingers do the walking. When I bought the Chim in August, I probably called about 15 brokers/companies and the there was a 4:1 ratio between the cheapest and most expensive. So, just keep makign those calls!

Sunninghill worked out cheapest for me by a long, long shot (4L Chim, 27, 4 yrs NCB, first performance car owned) came in at £850 - includes trackday and european cover and limited to 6k miles pa.

other quotes - Norwich Union £1800, Tesco £1400, Footman James £1300, Direct Line £1600, Elephant £2500!!

As you can see by far the cheapest. Sure there are massive variations for individuals though bu defiintely give them a try along with others.

Was with Tesco who were charging me £670 FC (3 yrs NC) and with limited mileage and £1000 excess. Now with A.L.Mannings (see Sprint) who are charging me £540 FC limited mileage and £300 excess. They do specialise which means usually cheaper rates.

Sunninghills beat my last year's premium (the club-recomended insurers) by over £138...and with a lower excess to boot!

23 with a 5.0 Chimaera. Tried various only Tesco would quote which was £998 with 5 years no claims, garaged, no convictions. All usual TVR specialists wanted 25's or over.

I don't yet own a TVR but I rang about 25 companies this weekend because I am hoping to own one soon.
Initially Sunninghill was the lowest then I rang Tesco and give or take change they were comparable.
But I opted for Royal Bank of Scotland becasue they give 10% off if you have another of their products. I changed my home insurance to them in order to qualify for this discount.
Hope this helps

How the hell did you get it that low?
You must have a large excess?
I'm 29 'n all and the best I found was £1100 with a £250 excess

Looks like £486 via the TVR club is a clear winner. Thanks again for all your help!
