Is this a realistic price to sell my Chimaera? I have had a run of bad luck with my car (not all her fault) and thanks to some sound advice from a fellow Piston Head (thanks JonRB)I thought I was home and dry.

BUT the misses hates going out in the TVR as she no longer trusts its reliability. I know this is not the best advert for selling the car by telling you all it's faults (all fixed as of tomorrow) but I had to replace the clutch (thanks TVR Gatwick) the starter motor (tomorrows job) and the power steering oh and all the rubber seals due to water ingress and the carpets............................and all this in just over a year.

She is a Cherry Red 450 Chimaera with 40000 miles on the clock, full service history, 4 owners from new, registered in 1997 has the odd chip on the paint work but generally a really nice car.

The good news from all this is that "her in doors" really likes the Sagaris so that will be the next toy.

GOD do I sound like I'm under the thumb.

cant you just say the chims had a run of bad luck,i mean its not like another brand of car wouldent need a clutch, its wear & tear tell her.a sagaris is not going to be trouble free is it.good luck.

yeah thats the one.. hes on here as wildfire. Such a shame to see you get rid of the V8! The hunting hasnt really started properly yet.. I went to the griff growl and the Chimfest to get some more info on them and am pretty set on getting it now. Just need to turn 21 in Oct, and im set to go start trying some out! So if you would like to wait then im sure I could look after your Chim!

I will be honest with you. I have been offered £8,000.00 for it by ADG Seven Oaks and it would be a loss of over £10,000.00 to me but I'm going to except it.

I know everyone will say don't do it but the sooner I sell this TVR the sooner I can get the new one and regain the FUN I lost.

Between 10.5k and 11.5k depending on condition. IMHO

To be honest, I would not have thought that was a bad year reliability wise. The car is 9 years old after all.

I cannot see a Sagaris being any cheaper to maintain and £8k seems very low to me - why not try an ebay auction with an £8k reserve set to see what interest there is? If it is as nice as it sounds, it should get a lot more than £8k....

My Chim is R674 SRV so they must have been stablemates originally.

I have had some reliability issues with mine but (touch wood) it seems to be OK at the moment. Had a faultless trip to Le Mans this year but this was following on from last year where it didn't make it - blown gasket on the front engine casing.

It is a bit worrying about the reduction in value of the old girl - but neverthe less it still produces the smile every time.

See ya

He'll be lucky although 8k is a bit low I had my 5.0l up and had no sniffs over 10.5 and it is outstanding(yes i would say that) i'm just keeping mine which is a shame!!!

Sorry to say, but I would have to agree.

Dabbeling (sp) with the idea of getting a new Tiv myself at the mo, not that I want to get shot of this one, but I was offered 10k yikes this afternoon at a main stealer (car in profile, 99 T Chim 500 with 32k on the clock) if I were to trade in. Was told the usual of coarse, not much demand for Chims as they look dated and not a popular as griffs (guess that's why there's more chims around then?? scratchchin), haven't realy got a popular colour, it would be hard to move on as it hasn't got powered steering, the usual dealer speil. rolleyes

Sadly the reality is if I did want shot, I'd have to realistically put it up for 13k private (factoring in a grand for bartering) just to get interest . If I were to put it up for what I wanted, chances are I wouldn't even get a call.

Not good I know, but the fact is, the way the world is at the mo it's a buyer's market, and people putting cars up on Ebay for 6 grand doesn't help. Yes the chances are they could be dogs, (appologies to anyone with a tidy car on there at the moment ) but it doesn't help residuals. grumpy

On the flip side though, those luckily enough to be buying in should be able to get some good deals at the mo. bounce

Oh......how my mood can change within the same post, guess it's that Saturday night feeling. drink

Cheers everyone, enjoy the weekend.

You're mad if you accept that, it will be up for sale within a week at 14-15K.

Certainly not the norm though - I spent a long time looking for 450s and ended up with a late 97. Most in the right colours and spec are still holding firm and selling for £10,500-13k depending on condition and mileage.

Prices also always drop for cabs towards the end of the summer regardless of marque.
