This is an engine out of a 1999 TVR Cerbera 4185cc. It is a complete engine with Ecu etc and has only done 23,000 miles. It is being advertised elsewhere so it may need to be withdrawn from the auction early.

Ifyou use them and dont abuse them all the time they are good long running bullet proof engines!
The more regular you use them the better they are!

had two,first one didnt last ten minutes literally,replacement engine lasted 14,000 then bang.
second car 17,000 then bang!, so I think that qualifies me to state this and im sure there are more people on here that agree,
my mate had one a few years ago with 30 odd thousand miles on it when he phoned tvr about something they actually refused to believe that it was original so if they admit it then so should you(rose coloured specs)!

Is this with reference to the snapping crank problem? If so then I dont think the 4.5 suffers from it so there is some truth in what he has said.

Sound like you were just very, very unlucky. Not many of the V8 engines go "pop" at all regardless of mileage, maybe it was a bad engine or maybe it was mistreated by former owners?
or mistreated by the current owner. To have one ajp8 go pop is extremely unlucky, to have two go pop and i'd be looking at issues other than the engine TBH.
In 12 years of working on 100s of AJP8s i've only jus had my 2nd engine rebuilt, and it's a leaking head gasket rather than gone pop.

Bit more detail would be good like, Rod let go, snapped timing chain and all bounced, snapped crank, big end let go, hole in piston etc etc etc???
