The oil pressure gauge on my Chim is not working - i.e. it is not even pointing at zero it actually off the scale to the left of the gauge.....

Problem is really need to make 1hr journey....obviously cant do it if there is no oil pressure, there is oil in the engine....wondered whether this suggested that the gauge was broken rather than it showing no pressure?????

Does the oil pressure light on the dashboard go out? The most likely cause is a faulty electrical connection. Sender is near the oil filter, it's not unusual for the wire to fall off, especially if you've recently scraped the underside on a bump in the road.

Mines stopped working as well - slightly different symptons tho.

If I turn the ignition on but don't turn the engine over, the gauge shows between 60-75psi. It stays there most of the time but sometimes drops right down below zero. Same when the engine is running.

It started while I got caught in torrential rain for a couple of hours going from Manchester to Birmingham and back.

will be taking it ti the garage to sort it - unless it is just aloose wire which I'll check now
