Number 1 - Broken Throttle cable

Tried a variety of shaft sizes jammed into the throttle before I got the engine to rev at 2500.

Then limped to the garage to get a new one fitted - cheers to Ian @ Middlewich for the advice and taking the time to fit a new one.

... and cheers to my adrenalin glands for being in full working order when the cable snapped starting to overtake two lorries. Anybody wanting firmer buttocks muscles should consider this as a valid and refreshing excercise.

So is this how one gets home from Chimfest?

Indeed

...and huge thumbs up for organising Chimfest Bob - a great gathering - even if the barbarian Griffs turned out in force looking for a bit of culture

If you find yourself here again without the screwdriver ...

... there's a handy spot on the side of the throttle body where the lever on the throttle spindle comes to rest against the throttle stop, where you can stick any old lump of gravel in to raise the idle speed.

Now that sounds like the voice of experience hehe

Anyone know if there's a better quality throttle cable available as an alternative to the weedy standard one? Worth getting a few thicker gauge ones done maybe?

Ah yes. How to turn an Ayrton Senna moment into a senna pod moment. Mercifully I was on a dual carriage way mid-overtake when mine snapped so at least I had a hard shoulder to retreat to once I'd disentangled my self from the surrounding traffic. Proper old brown trousers moment as the car stops going forward and engine breaking starts sucking you backwards without any warning.

The weedy one is fine as long as:

it's aligned correctly with the pedal where it comes through the bulkhead
the pedal isn't asjusted up so high it kinks the cable at idle
you open up the end of the mounting ferule so the cable follows a curve at the pedal

and the most important one, fit a throttle stop.

I found the throttle stop took about an inch out of the throttle pedal travel, because the only way to be *sure* you're really got full travel in the heat of the moment is push a bit harder and see if the pedal will go any further ...
