Gear slection on a Griff 500

Hello everyone,

Always a bonus if you put a title in!!!!

I have just driven from London to Aberdeen (home town) in my recently purchased Griff 500 ('93 pre-cat).

Bar it cutting out in the middle of the M25 and the boot lid deciding to pop open on the M74 just outside Glasgow, it's a blinding tool, which has me grinning like a mad man, but I have one or two questions to ask, which I have posted on the TVR site, but am canvassing opinion before sticking it to my trusted mechanic.

When going from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to 4th I usually have to double de-clutch to select (and especially going from 3th to 4th) and it needs an almight shove to get it to go to third and even more so from 3rd to 4th. It's fine coming back down the box from 5th. Is this usual, or could this be a selector issue?

Hi Martin and welcome!

Since you are new to this site can i suggest you try a search on previous postings
To do this select search above the page and then Forums you can then type in your question then select Griff and i normaly select all dates.

Iam sure this will help you but i have no doubt someone will have the info Martin

Check clutch hydraulic fluid level and bleed system first, a common cause of difficult gear shifting.

Yeah, it does.

I was out for a country blast yesterday. Initially the box was firm and positive in all gears, and then gradually 3rd and 4th became a problem again. This now makes me think it's a fluid issue, as it seems to be when the car (and therefore the 'box fluid) has warmed up?

I'll also have a search under previous posts also. Thanks for the pointers.
