Yet again, when work dries up & cash runs out, there's only one way to beat the blues - spend! So Dreamytime Software's latest gadget is a shiny new Sony hi-res 'lipstick' camera - and verrrrry nice it is too. I Heath-Robinson'd it to the 500 today on the way to meet Andy H (Griff2be) for a pint; Andy immediately came up with a dozen creative solutions for mounting it better (clever sod that fellow).

www.sports-camera.com supplied the little camera, which connects into the bigger one that I shoved behind the seat. That one is a bog standard Sony DV with analogue in (necessary of course).
I tried some different places for the mic. In the end I just stuck it in the boot & it's not too bad (a bit muffled though). Anywhere else was too loud / windy.
The mount.. some foam and a small G-clamp. Pretty swish eh? Using Andy's technical skills (and million tools) I'm hoping to have a more robust setup before I head up to the Bruntingthorpe runway next month.
The exhaust.. a Steve Howard special. Have to get the db test done before B'thorpe though - 97.5 limit I'm told.
Glad you al like it - I've watched it loads of times! Still trying to work out why I'm so twitchy whilst driving. Must relax.... relax... zzzzz

It is a bit of a steal. The camera itself is very sturdy. The extras in the package bit homemade though!
I'm going to try a few different lenses at some point to see what's best - there's one that grabs 130º that sounds useful!

Unfortunately in the UK too many people still suffer a lo-band connection (including myself living out in the middle of nowhere), so I try to keep a trade off between bandwidth & quality. This is why I use the WMV format instsead of MPG; an equivalent MPG would be AT LEAST twice this filesize

I've got a similar remote camera (I went for the cheaper low-resolution version), mine has a simple swivel joint on the base which I've screwed on to an exhaust clamp over the roll bar. The recorder is a standard DV camcorder which is ticked up nice and safe in a padded bag with a LANC remote control. I agree the results from the 'bullet cam' are very good. I used to get noticeable camera shake and picture break-up when I had the camera mounted directly on the roll bar, but with the remote unit I can mount it solidly without worrying about wrecking my expensive camera.
Anyone tried any form of noise suppression on the mics? I'm wondering about putting some sort of foam sleeve over it to keep the wind noise down?
