Engine Gagg at slow acceleration!!!
Discussion
Got a slight problem that is very niggling.
When i start my chim it runs really well until it starts to get warm. Then it starts to feel as though it is miss-firing on a couple of cylinders when i am accelerating slowly or just cruising along and then ease my foot down slightly(ie 60 in 4th...feels like its spluttering).
If i turn it off and start up again it runs sweet for a few miles and then starts doing it again.
I can accelerate through it with no problems although under heavy load it might miss once.
If i do a standing start up to 70ish going hard through the gears i do not have the problem either.
I have checked the plugs, stepper motor, resistance on the throttle pot and AFM, reset the ECU, coolant is fine, dizzy and rotor look good.
Was wondering if anyone had any other ideas???

Could be the coolant temperature sensor for the ECU.
This, if faulty may show the engine being cold when it is clearly warm and therefore over fuels the engine.
This gives the feeling of running with the choke on.
Mine had a similar fault as you decribe and I relaced the sensor and all is well again.
Cost around 12 quid and easy to replace.
Cheers
Paul.

Test it before you go to all the trouble of replacing it, with the risk of damaging something or causing some other problem along the way. With the engine at 80C the resistance across the sender should be very approximately 300 Ohms. Ideally measure it at the ECU plug so that you pick up wiring faults too.
would it not cause other problems through the rev range though?
I shall be checking it tonight...got a laser temp gauge on loan so i shall see what the results are.
Have replaced the otter switch for one that comes on earlier but i cant see that having any knock on effect.
I shall take all advice on board and have a night of fault finding again!

Engine Gagg...
Chap goes into a country pub and explains that he has broken down about a mile down the road. Nothing funny about that, but he tells the barman that the strange thing was this horse that kept putting his head over the hedge and saying "it's your carburetor mate, it's your carburetor." Barman says "Was it a white horse?" and the bloke says "funny enough it was." "Good", says the barman "'cos the black one knows bugger all about cars."

RichB - for telling that joke i think you should come round my house and attach the HT leads to you :censored so we can check them...that 'joke' was shocking!!!
Going to give all the above a try tonight and see what happens...like i say...its not a huge problem and does not seem to be getting worse, just very annoying
The gagging sounds very similar to how my Chimaera felt when I ran out of petrol on the A30 last week. (AA sorted us out in 20 minutes!).
It could be that you fuel pump has gone/is going - can you hear it working when you turn the ignition before the engine starts?
I'm not an expert, but you may have enough fuel to get you going "for a few miles" before the effects of it being broken are felt.

with 4-5 metres of fuel line i would have thought that would drain very quickly rather than last a few miles...but is a very good suggestion...off home now so i might change the relays over and see if that makes a difference.
Right
Plugs, leads, dizzy and coil.
Check fuel pump, replace filter, and check fuel pressure.
Check resistance on temp sender.
That should keep me in the garage long enough to miss Eastenders, Corrie and get out of doing the washing up!!!!

if it's just before 2000 revs and on a light throttle only then that's normal for a Chim/Griff. Problem can be reduced with components in tip top shape or made much better with a re-chip.
I had a load of hastle with this car when i first got it and it took me a while to get it running really well. I know what you mean...if you are driving along at 30mph in 4th sometimes it judders as if you were going to slow for the gear. I have had the car running for about 6 months with no judder at this speed in 4th gear.
I am talking about doing 60mph easing the throttle on and it feels and sounds like it is missing on one or two cylinders.
Checked most of the things suggested yesterday but have not found anything screamingly ovious...although this morning on the way in to work it didnt do it.
In fact it was running really well!!!
Will try the rest of the suggestions tonight.

It's the thought that counts...
These cars just like to keep you on your toes.
