Are you all enthusiastic owners?
Discussion
I have owned my TVR for around 2 months now and am always interested to hear/read and see other peoples experiences and cars.
I think it is fair to say that those on this board are enthusiasts but I sometimes wonder what the percentage of total TVR owners are real enthusiasts...
Out driving this weekend I saw 3 other TVRs are various times. One waved back after I flashed him and gave him a thumbs up.
The subsequent two TVRs (griff and Chim) didn't respond to any friendly gestures initiated by me...
I love TVRs as they are different from Porkers and other exotica... but am I getting sad since I am a TVR spotter while out in my own TVR? Do you all make the first effort when spotting a fellow TVR driver to wave hello and in your experiences, do they reciprocate???

No - we're all a bunch of apathetic
Hey - seriously - I have passed many other TVRs before I've noticed (it's me age you know) as well as seen others concentrating on the road rather than wave back at me.
But, wherever possible a good
is always in order and almost always
recipro..... reprico....DOH....RETURNED.
Let's face it if you're not an enthusiast but own a TVR you're just plain
......
.....or both.

I have found the same thing since owning my Griff. You can flash someone in a TVR to acknowledge them, but get nothing in response. Makes you feel a bit of a dime bar, but then again I always take it they are more hoo-ray henrys than true enthusiasts. They probably bought one because everyone in the car park at work owns porkers and wanted to be different.
Generally, I have had positive responses, but you would think that since there are relatively small numbers of tivs out there that it would be impolite not to acknowledge each other.
I will just be happy in the knowledge the majority of us are enthusiasts and not take it too baldy the next time I get blanked.

hi hi hi
well, if i had a boxster or a TT (opps) i wouldn't bother waving to another fellow driver as my arms would be aching - there are hundreds about and really common...
The only other car I can think of that has an enthusiastic base is the S2000 owners club, cars which i still respect (feel free to flame me!)
but i like to think that we are all part of a "family" no matter which model we have and the strength of the meets/convoys etc hopefully demonstates this....we are all bonded by our love of TVRs...!

Ive had my TVR 3 months . . .its an old Vixen . . .my experience thus far is that If I crashed into your average TVR driver they would know what car I was driving.
having said that, driving a tweaked vixen requires concentration . . . .I dont generally admire the scenery if Im driving properly, just in case it decides to hop skip or jump off the beaten track

I think everyone is enthusiastic, but as people have mentioned, I don't think you see every TVR on the road.
The part that does suprise me is on Saturday (gorgeous day) that I saw 10 TVR's and only 2 had the roof off. (I forgive you Mr Yellow Cerbie in Bromley) The only ones I saw with roofs off were a red chim on the A21 about 1pm and a silver Griff in Windsor about midday.
T-J-K
I have had my TVR a year and rarely have any response if i flash or wave. Half the time I wonder if the other drivers know my car is a TVR or just think I am mad!
granted though, if I am giving it some heavy loud pedal i wouldnt want to take a hand off the wheel or move for the flasher stalk

I see lots of TVRs: round our way they're as common as muck, you know...
Many, many owners wave or flash or acknowledge a friendly gesture in my experience. Loti also often wave - its the "you, too, must be mad enough to own a British sports car" thing.
Nearly all Porsche owners do NOT wave....when I'm out in my Porsche. Just not done I think. me..I wave anyway! Every so often a Porsche driver coming the other way goes absolutely barmy at this and waves and flashes away grinning like a loon.
When I see that - I know that was an "enthusiast".

I wave / flash at all TVRs I see when I'm in mine, plus all Caterhams, Austin Healeys, Morgans, and, the other day, an MGRV8.
However, I was out in my silver griff the other day, saw ANOTHER silver griff stopped facing me indicating to turn right into a side road. I delightedly stopped my car, flashed and waved him to turn right across my bows, and was disappointed to not get even a nod in response. He seemed a bit cheesed off, probably had the attitude of a girl who sees another girl at a party in the same dress!!

it's down to education i reckon. when i was on a test drive at my local dealership, the salesman was driving it initially and a chimaera was coming in the opposite direction... the salesman waved, and the driver waved back... i was told this is what TVR owners do. So i do it
(unless I'm actually paying attention to the road and not looking at cars
)

)Always wave when I see another TVR; more often than not get a wave back.. Occaisionally just a bit of a nod back, maybe they think I am
Having said that, don't see a lot of them around right now.. I can confirm its safe to emerge from the winter hibernation; my lid's been off more or less constantly since I bought the car in December..

i think it is nice when people post "spotted - red Tamora in Knightsbridge - was that you" etc but I fear that the chances of getting a reply from the actual red Tam owner would be quite slim, even though the relative TVR owning population is very small.
Which brings me to the question, do you think more than 50% of current TVR owners have heard of pistonheads.com ??? For me, discovering this fab site has been instrumental in my continued enjoyment in TVR ownership...

I had a boot full in the Tuscan so couldn't! PS, did you spot me in the Travoltamobile?
If that was you in Windsor about midday just off St Leonards Road then yes, but another Tuscan passed me on the M25 and came off about J8.... Shame it was held up by traffic.
