I drive a Tusc and am seriously considering moving on to a Sag - I saw one in a beautiful racing green and I think I'm in love! A couple of questions though:

1. I live in London in a speed bump happy area - all the types are there and I have to negotiate these very carefully in the Tusc so as to avoid that dreaded scraping noise from the rear. The Sag's even lower and with that front splitter I reckon one misjudged speed bump could result in a hefty bill? How is the Sag on these?

2. Luggage space? I love the fact I can get my snowboards, shopping etc in the back of the Tusc. What can you get in the back of Sag - any way of getting a board in there or is it a front seat job?

3. From which year should I be buying to be the most assured of mechanical soundness? Is that bonnet issue sorted out - I read a great story on here about the 2 Sags that went down to le Mans and the bonnet blew off one of them?

I'll probably buy it anyway as it just looks fabulous - your help is appreciated though.

Cheers

Hi Theo

My contributions:

1. Haven't had many encounters with speed bumps up here in the north but the ones I have happened across have been fine. As long as you proceed slowly and go over at an angle it should be ok.

2. Luggage space: plentiful but not on a par with the Tuscan or Cerbera - I've been able to get a couple of golf bags in those but have trouble getting just one in the Sagaris (only way is a front seat job as you mention). As for 'normal' sized items the Sagaris is spacious - no probs getting a hefty week or two's worth of shopping in or a weekends worth of luggage for two people.

3. As with most TVR's I would say the latest tend to be the best bet, plus you have the benefit of the remainder of the three year/36,000 mile warranty which is the key. Be aware that there are now three generations of seating in the Sags - the original T350 seats, followed by the Tuscan style seats (which are the majority IMO) and onto the Sparcos on the latest incarnations.

Hope that helps!

Mine has spent most of the last 16 months in London and gets over speed bumps fine if taken slowly. It's the bumps and lumps in the road you don't see coming that are more of a problem.

I find the rear hatch very practical. As I've not owned a tuscan I can't comment on the comparison but the Sagaris is much more practical than it looks. There's been no report yet of the latest bonnet but such a large redesign would surely only be worth doing if a serious improvement could be achieved? My car has been a bit of a pain bonnet wise but I've never had it fly off. It's the catches near the windscreen that can come loose on mine. It's not serious just a bit shabby, below 80mph you wouldn't notice. Above that it starts to flap a bit. All you have to do is pull over and put it back in place. But really I would expect better from TVR considering everything else is so well resolved. I'm thinking of replacing the bonnet catches with racing catches for peace of mind as my dealer doesn't seem to be able to find a permanent fix.

beer fellow boarder!

My long 162mm board - even with flow bindings - fits in snugly in its bag on its side between passenger seat & trans tunnel, running from footwell through to rear hatch area. Passenger's a bit hemmed in, but he's 11 and doesn't care.

You're not wrong. Have you got a estimated figure for one of these yet and will they be one piece or two?

I've lived with a Sagaris for over a year now. I used to worry about speed bumps, but you get over that. As mentioned earlier, take them at an angle and they are usually fine. You will hear the back end catch on normal roads a lot more than you'll catch the front on anything ... unless you forget how long the front is when parking up to a curb. We have sheared a couple of bolts holding the rear protection plate, but we just replace them every now and then with nice new ones, so no hassle.

Two adults plus luggage have just hooned round France, Switzerland and Italy in mine for a week and she didn't miss a beat. I take loads of luggage (shoes, hairdryer ... typical woman), so 3 large bags plus a bag of goodies for the car along with a couple of rucksacks fitted easily in the back. As with all TVRs, squashy luggage is king, though.

Never had any trouble with the centre engine bonnet cover, but we have modified ours slightly after hearing a couple had popped out at speed. It is wasy to replace the cover and not click the bolts in fully, so make sure this is something you do check if you get one.

I've had 5 TVRs over the years and have never regretted my Saggy purchase for a single second ... go for it. You won't regret it.
