Edited to add: I did search! But it just hung?!

I have recently got an xbox 360 and am unfamiliar with them.

I understand there's 2 games, PGR and Forza motorsport. Can someone give me a run down of them? I hear PGR is more arcadey, right?
Which has better graphics and general uberness?
Which has more cars?

I would normally prefer the more simulation-type game, but I have got Gran Turismo 4 for PS2 and completed about 20-25% of the game, but to be honest am finding it boring. The races against AI are utterly and totally rubbish, the other 5 cars droning round as if you aren't even there and 95% of the time your car is much faster than theirs. Also the tracks are boring, the crashes totally awful and most cars feel similar.

So I could be convinced away from the simulation racers as I'm not averse to arcade racers - Sega Rally (2?) on PC was great! I also was tempted to buy Burnout Arcade recently.

Also as a bonus my housemates/girlfriend are more likely to want to race against me on an arcadey game, rather than get angry as they spin off for the 6th time with me saying "yeah that's oversteer, you need to counter-steer into the !*%*" [cue controller gets thrown at my head].

Yep, PGR is more arcadey but in all racing games, you can't beat a real opponent. The best thing about the 360 is the fact that the multiplayer is integral to almost every game.

I'd forget about Forza for the moment as Forza 2 is coming out and will use all the power of the 360 as Forza was made for the xbox, not the 360.

You should be able to get PGR second hand very cheap form your local game place so I'd go for that and get Forza 2 when it comes out.

Oh right - I don't even have the hard disk (good place to get one?) so playing games for Xbox one is a no-no anyway. That was simple.

Forza is only for the Xbox, not the 360. It will play on a 360, but was very choppy last time I tried it, to the point of unplayability.

PGR3 is a 360 game, the graphics are leagues ahead of Forza, as you'd expect. Unlike Forza, you cannot customise or tune, fettle or paint your cars. It is more arcadey, but that's not a bad thing. I reviewed Forza on the Xbox and PGR3 for Ars Technica - the reviews might give you more of a flavour of the games.

Forza Motorsport II is due out towards the end of the year - October or November. This should give you all the graphics advantages of PGR3 with the cars, customisation, tracks etc that made Forza so good.

forza is now added to the backward compatible list and is playable on the 360. I am half way through and it only slows occassionally. Definately worth getting from the bargain bucket even if it's just to get used to it for forza 2. " will be more of the same but at a higher frame rate ie 64 instead of 32 fps ( or whatever it is ). It will keep the same physics engine but have better graphics and more cars etc.
I can see it wiping every other racing game off the board, perhaps even Gran turismo unless they get their act together and start adding what people want! Like damage, weather, Half decent AI.
