Just started to edit video for the 1st time.

I have imported a couple of clips just by plugging in the cam and using Windows movie maker, but have found it a bit limiting. (I want to increase speed by 10% on playback etc)

So, I have just installed the "Motion DV Studio 5.3" bundalled software but that does not "see" any of the clips on my PC.

These clips are in WMV format and it looks like DV studio is being stubborn and not recognising that format.

What can I do? (other than importing it again) and what do I do in the future?

Thanks
Greg

Seems to me that Motion DV is exactally the same as Windows movie maker, only it imports as avi rather then WMV.

Looks like I need to get me a decent editor.

Maybe Adobe Premier is the way forward.

Last question 4 now.............

Just found Pinnacle Studio 8 in my PC bundal software. Before I install that one, is it better than the others?

Thanks.

From memory - I can't recall PInnacle 8 allowing speed playback facilities it's been a while since I used it though..

I've used Studio DV (But version 9) and it's got the speed control you want and generally is quite flexible, more features than Windows MM

Me too, not sure it can do speed change as precise as 10% though. Ulead video software is supposed to be better than Pinnacle according to friends I have that do a lot of video stuff, but haven't actually used it myself.

Export your files from moviemaker as .avi and then re-import to motion dv if you only have a couple. There is a high quality DV avi export option in "others" for exporting. It may be quicker to start again though and be careful where you export stuff to as the files can be massive and if you can't find them you will very quickly run out of space. Premiere is very good but can take some learning so Ulead or pinnacle may be easier for a starter.

I just want one that can speed things up a bit to make my track driving look a bit better.

I actually liked the simplicity of Motion DV and Windows MM, but would like a few more professional looking things.

Will load up Pinnicle 8 later and see what it can do.

Thx

You should capture all of your footage in DV-AVI regardless of what product you use. This will enable you to (almost universally) import it into any editor that you upgrade to. You can always export a copy as WMV MPEG2 or whatever.

pinnacle is very good for the money but adobe or avid are the dogs...
I use pinnacle all the time for editing, it has some brilliant features and reasonably easy to use, but takes up a lot of ram and freezes a lot if you are trying to do anything else or 'rushing it'.
Re the speeding up of clips, it can speed things up or slow down but not by precise amounts.
You could make the clip look 'old' that way you could be forgiven for being slow???

Just downloaded the taster vesion of Ulead VideoStudio v10. Looks basic but neat and yes you can change the playback speed as a percentage allowing you to speed up that in-car Noble footage ...not a feature I feel I need for footage from my Honda'd Exige
