Seriously thinking about selling!

Had my Cerb for almost 3 years now, and loved it, even though it has cost me a fortune.
Got in it the other night to give it a run and it wouldn't start, due to me not using it for the past 3 weeks so the battery hasn't enough juice to kick it into life.
Since then I've been thinking about moving on. I used to use my Cerb everyday, but my commute is now only 5 miles, and next month will be dropping down to 2 miles, so I don't use it for commuting, and I just never seem to use the car anymore. I've done less than a thousand miles in the past few months.
I haven't fallen out of love with my Cerb, but it just seems a total waste to keep it sitting there doing nothing (apart from depreciating
) We all know these cars need to be used, and I'm not rich enough to keep up with the day-to-day costs if I'm not going to use the car, it's an extravagance rather than a toy in that case.
What would I replace it with? Nothing comparable. I don't really need 2 cars. I might get an old MX5 with a turbo or something similar that can stand being left for ages with no attention and only get used when I can be arsed.
I think the telling thing on getting rid of the Cerb, is that if I didn't have the hassle of selling the car, i'd be happy to pass it on to a more worthy owner, it's just the hassle of selling which is putting me off getting rid of the car (plus the thousands I have put into it! But I knew I'd never get that back)

I've had an MX5 before, so I'll know what i'm letting myself in for, but that was just a quick idea rather than a specific.
I know I'll regret selling, but is that worse than owning and not using? It's certainly cheaper in the long run
I commute only a total of 5 miles in my Cerb most days.
However if I'm having a stressful day, I quite often go for a 30 minute (or more) blast about at lunchtime. I also give her a longer blast the odd evening - once the kids have been put to bed and the wife is happy. I still enjoy every drive, short or long or fast or slow.
If you get rid of her you'll regret it. I know, because I've been there!

I understand where your coming from - Owning a Cerb is a big commitment, can be a lot of expense, and you always seem to be having to do something on it!
So just put a For sale ad on PH, at the price YOU think it is worth to YOU. Then when (and if) someone offers to buy it, then make your decision to Keep or Sell at that point in time.

I had some of these when I was selling mine. Went along with them, answered the e-mails, when they asked for my address to come and view the car, I reckoned Exeter was a pretty horrible drive from a ferry port, so gave them the address of the Police Station in Exeter. I dont know wether or not they ever turned up to do a 'midnight viewing' but the thought of them doing it made me smile
I use mine every day and I only do 5 miles to work and back = 10 miles. Of course I have two days off a week on which I probably don't use it. I may clean it and make some small repairs here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary. I only get work done on it when it really needs it and I get it serviced and tell the garage to do the basic service needed whilst listing what could be done and the order of urgency. Sometimes I feel the urge and take it out for a blat and then - no holds barred - I absolutely cane it. Using it every day keeps it all in order and then if I want to leave a Scooby at the lights I may or I may not. Keep it, use it, cane it when you fancy, get it serviced when it says so on the papers and most of all enjoy it. It will go wrong once in a while and that's what PH is for and then if PH can't solve it call the AA - its only a car - but F**k its the best looking car there is!!!!!!

Hope you are well. sorry to hear this, but i guess there always comes a time when we have to part with a motor (or anything else for that matter). Only you know the full circumstances around your thoughts on selling, and only you will know if/when the time is right. Just be suer in your mind what you need to do, then go for it - no regrets. You have owned one for three years - an experience a lot of people will never ever have. Plus at the end of the day it's only a car.
I came very close to selling mine a year or so ago but i managed not to, but to be honest if it wasn't for circumstances changing lately, it would have had to go at some point soon.

To be honest I only use mine at the weekend and the odd evening trip, my drive to work is 7 miles each way, took it in once but was a waste of time as its just one long traffic jam.
I haven't found using it a couple of times a week has caused any problems, got an optima battery so it always starts.
I understand where your coming from, it is a bit of an extravagance, but what else are you going to get for the money that can even hold a candle to it, especially as it seems 4.2s are not going for a lot of money these days I think it makes more sense to keep it. If I sold mine it would be a very hard act to follow.

I don't know if you are still thinking about getting rid, but in one of my threads it was suggested I try and swap my S2000 for a cerbie. I didn't take it too seriously as I didn't think anyone would have reason to swap but if you are let me know...

Dont use it very often at all now and having real trouble justifying the cost of just keeping it in the garage
When I have the urge to sell I go into the garage take the cover off............ and
thats it, I think who cares what it costs to keep if I have to sell another part of my anatomy i will.
These cars are a labour of love, and if I did sell (96 4.2) what would I get for it???? 10K maybe? Thats a fraction of what has been spent on it over the years. What could I get for 10K that comes anywhere close to the performance, looks and noise? I think nothing.
So it looks as though I am in it for the long term

I really like your car mate, sadly I'm currently in the pre cerb saving phase of my "get a cerb" plan.
Your is probably the tasiest looking car nearish me.
I'm hoping you don't sell it till spring!
