Mate of mine has just bought a new car - 911 (997) C4S, a fully loaded, ex-demonstrator with 7k on the clock (2006 reg). Price was around £75k, I think.

He has zero no claims bonus (having not owned a car before!) and the car will be left on street in London.

He is under 30 yeasrs of age.

What do you reckon his insurance costs will be (for fun only - I know the answer!)

Speaking from experience.... Exactly my circumstance...!!

Most refused to quote me, Porsche themselves said 4.5k.

In the end Cheam sorted me out through CHUBB for a stunner of a policy for 2.2k. Anything cheaper read the small print, anything higher call Cheam.

Well it looks like you're there or thereabouts!

I was amazed! Basically not much more than 60% more than I'm paying, and I'm older, have full no claims, married, car is garaged in Kent etc etc etc

It almost seems too good to be true!

That's only about 6 times what I pay - I'm shocked, was expecting his right kidney, left lung and first 2 children

Edited to add - Mine is worth a packet of pringles and a curly-wurly

Use them for mine and wife's car. Haven't had to claim from them so can't comment in that respect, but otherwise thumbup

Wouldn't let me add a loan car to the policy whilst mine was being serviced though.

I work in motor insurance paperbag and I am constantly amazed at how weak (from an underwriting point of view) motor rates are at the moment.

I can remember years ago being insured with the company I worked for and getting a healthy discount, only to be told the employee scheme was being stopped.

I was faced with going out into the big bad world and the cheapest quote I could get for an Astra GTE 16V was £4500 yikes

Needless to say I was staggered to see a £2.2k quote for a London based owner with a £79k car with nil NCB clap

Have to admit I was pleasantly surprised as well. Cheam got me a great deal through CHUBB on their Masterpiece policy which is great (way too many benefits to list.)

They did pull a few strings to get it for me but worth it.

Really hacked off with UK insurance companies though. I may have been under 30 (now just over) but I used to live in Germany. Whilst there I've owned three M3s in a row and access to father's 996TT. All have been under family insurance which was piss cheap. How much credit does this buy in the UK? F*ck all..!! I get treated the same as some spotty 17yr trying to insure his Max Power Fiesta...Rant over..!!
