Saw a nice shiney ruby C4 sporting the number RL52 PYG in Basingstoke today. Think it was a coupe but not sure as I was fixated on the plate which doesn't match the year at all !

Hi Tris

This is my freind adrian's car, its a 1993 LT1 coupe he has had it for about 2 months now. I think the plate represents the year the car came into the country.

see you soon Louis

confused
I didn't think you were allowed to make a car appear newer when changing the plate.
ie a 1993 car with a 2002 plate? I assume that because it's a US import that doesn't apply.

I thought so as well, so there'd be no way a 52 plate should go on a C4.

However, the DVLA probably have some sort of date-of-first-registration (e.g. my car is 1997, but was built in '91!!)... perhaps that's how it got through.

1997 no use for me (meant I could use letters up to P, I think), hence I settled for a C4 plate. One I'd really like is V8 something or other!!

Oh, and the DVLA have my cc @ 1800, despite numerous tellings otherwise!!

This Vette and a Ruby convertible were brought into the country by a dealer in Ewell. The 'mistake' on the reg was made by the Ministry when the car was registered so Adrian has no worries there as it was an administrative error by 'The Government' It might cause a problem if he wanted to put a private plate on afterwards as the age constraints should come into effect then. It is a nice car as I saw it at the Fairmile BBQ, it also made me miss my old Ruby convertible again.

My 77' Camaro is on a 'W' 81' reg. I think it is down to year of import. I weas under the impression it changed as my other car is a Jap import and has was given a year of manufacture plate, not import date.

Glad you got one Adrian, hate to think what the insurance is on it. Still, damned lucky to get that new-looking plate !
