really getting bored of this now, want my car to just sit at 90'c and leave me in piece, after replacing most of the coolant system, a month or two on now and the last day or two notice water temps seem to be going upto and sitting around the 97-102'c with occasional flickering down to 92'c and upto 105'c

both fans do appear to be working, one kicking in at 98'c and the second at 102'c i think, no sign of water level dropping, no air from bleed points and im stuck for idea's, could it just be the dash sensor needing taken out and cleaned?

help before my rad goes pop again

:/

Does it vary much while you're driving along at constand speed or when you stop in traffic?

It might be the water pump.

its hard to tell, sometimes when i move away from lights it will dip to 93/94, but only sometimes, and flickers up/down at random, MOT is due on friday aswell, what a pain in the arse this thing can be

water pump the only part i did not replace of course, so you might be right, at least its a start

plus iv just had the power steering and alternator fuses die in the last couple weeks so i wouldnt be surprised if the water pump had a fuse somewhere thats gone

Apart from the Twin expansion tank modification.
Has anybody had any simple or major modifications to aid cooling ?

nope, iv fitted the expansion tank aswell but nothing much seems to help, the radiator is in a shit position if you ask me, it should have air going directly over it

Can't sit at 90C if the fan's don't cut in until 98. Fan (s) on my T350 cut in at 95 and cut out again when the temp is down to 90. I don't know if one or 2 fans come on, never looked. I can drive in traffic at temps up to 40C and never get a reading >95C except the odd flicker. Suggests that either your dash readout is higher than the real temp, (or maybe mine is lower!), or the sensor that triggers the fans needs to switch at a lower temperature. I don't know if the ECU controls the fans. I guess you could put a manual override in so that you can switch the fans on when the temp reaches say 93C. If the temp then drops quickly I would say there is nothing wrong with the cooling system just that the fans switch on too late and maybe don't cool enough before switching off again.

I've had the mod done on mine as I was getting similar readings this has helped but whilst the car was being serviced the lap top readings showed 91/92c when the instruments were reading 96/97c evidently they can be harmonised similar to the fuel guage I would imagine.

It seems to me that your fans are switching on to late, 94 / 98 should be the area they should come on at. I have just had fitted an over ride so as i can switch both fans on at the same time when ever i like. This was no easy job as i had to fit the two new relays on the live wire behind the ECU relays so as the ECU does not know they are on. The ECU still switches them on and off as normal.

This system works fantastic being able to flick both fans on at 80c

I do believe that the T350 front has a shortage of air intakes for the engine it has to cool..

yes it could do with a bit more venting IMHO, iv been told by dealer that my fans should come on at those temperatures, like you'v said maybe the dash readout is higher than actual, if so then 92 and 94 may well be the actual temps when they come on. spoke to the dealer this morning, they've said to try removing the temp sensor on the block and i will prob find an air pocket, will give this a go after work. they also said water pumps never fail on these cars.

Your dealer is right they dont fail but sometimes there flow rate can be down.. You can have a flow reading done and if need be you could add an electric booster pump on the system to give the original pump some help. The only reason i have had the fan by pass switch added is for track days but i am sure it will work just as well if your car is prone to getting warm.

Any good motorsport supplier but be carefull and get expert advise its not as easy as it sounds....And it may not be anything to do with the pump.. They do run naturally hot 105 is ok on the read out as the read out is probably wrong..

Dont let it spoil your fun.

Be careful with these. Whilst they help when you're at idle, they can impede the flow when you're on the move. I tried it on my old GTR - it didn't work.

Cheapest fix is to fit a new, lower temp. fan switch in the rad - yours may be rated too high. I did this to my Can-Am which was supposed to be 95/90 - it was actually 98-95. Replaced with a 92-87 - cooling fixed for a tenner!

If the water is pumping and the fans are coming on one at a time, staying on until the temp drops, then switching off, then the chances are that the system is working fine and your display is a few degrees high. Have you had the display verified (IR thermometer or similar) ?

Agree, on a hot day my readings can hit the 100's, unless I'm getting constant sensor warnings and coolant/steam is venting out of the expansion tank I don't get to concerned.

the fans are coming on but not cooling it down, just holds the temp steady at around 100, i asked the dealer if there was a way of taking the temps the fans kick in down but said no it's controlled by the ecu. i will look for air again but other than that im lost for ideas.

IIRC the first fan should come on at about 91 degrees and the second at about 97 degrees!

i removed the water temp sensor for the fans and got some air out, ran the car with cap off upto about 80'c when i had to put it on to stop it spilling out, and was getting some air bubbles come out, now temps sit around 89'-95' with both fans coming on not letting it go above 97, so maybe still a bit of air to come out but much better now

Glad you found it was just down to air not having been bled out. Mine's been fine for 19k miles including hot tracks, once I got used to water level sitting 1/2 way down expansion tank. Any more and out it comes rolleyes

Tailslide is quite right, the water level is quite low down. Once you have found the cars correct level get a wooden spoon and hang it in expansion tank, take it out and you will see the water level on the spoon then mark it with a stanley knife and you now have a dip stick showing the right level for future use..
