This is really good news and in my opinion a certain sign that the police have lost the respect of the public when it comes to their misguided obsession with speed.

When the whole focus on speed came up 10 years ago, there seemed to be plenty of people who were hard of thinking and believed the hype. Five years ago for example I went through the odd speed trap without any warning from my fellow motorists. 15 years ago many people would be flashing.

Now this past month I've seen two police setups and both times, many of the drivers were flashing as I approached. First time in the 911 doing what might have appeared to be a speed in excess of the 60mph NSL there was loads of flashing and furious waving of hands and sure enough plod was parked up around the corner. Second time in a shopping car, not obviously speeding coming into a village, the same sort of thing. There was plod again.

I think the tide has turned, let's just hope those that have seen the light start making a bit of noise about it to the right people.

This is absolutely standard practice in North Wales, now. A flash of the lights and the horizontal hand wave (slowing down hand signal). Can't say I've seen much of it elsewhere...

Couple of times on road to Glencoe on Monday for me too.

1st one a van was hidden behind trees at a section of m/way that is split and the 2nd was Trafpol with the car reversed into a tiny lane and the officers standing behind a high mesh fence with their Hi-Vis jackets curiously missing.

Yeah, seems to happen a lot more these days.. Could simply be also the fact there are an awful lot more tax collectors on the roadside these days.

I do it in whenever I see a van when i'm out and about. Saved a biker a ticket on the Wendover Bypass a few weeks ago.

Yep, I do it now too, flashing other road users for "hazards"

There needs to be a universally accepted flash though, sometimes I think people know me or something

Also, how many cars do you flash and for what distance after passing said "hazard"

As many as possible, how long I do it for depends on the road and the location of the "hazard"!

If we are helping each other by warning of these speed t£aps, it's good news as far as I'm concerned.

just remember if you get done;

the presence of the fing parasites (good persons from the SCP) in their van alerted you that that section of road must be an accident blackspot with a high number of KSI. The car you are alleged to have warned appeared to be travelling well below the speed limit. He may not have been aware of the particularly dangerous section of road he was about to tackle.

I'm sure all of us on PH do this to save fellow motorists from the speed nazis I've also taken to giving our local pratnership Ford Galaxies a thumb down as I pass. I would flip them the bird but it seems you can get done in court for that rolleyes

I to flash other motorists to warn them! I was only thinking the other day that it should be universally adopted on wallet safety grounds to ensure other motorists are warned of the perils hiding round the corner! The more people that do it should kerb revenue to safety camera partnerships etc.

I haven't yet flashed on the motorway , but thanks to an M3 driver on the M4 going the other way i did avoid 3pts!

Done for what?

You were flashing to warn of that small rabbit on the apex of the bend, I'd consider that a "hazard" cough cough.

As per flashing lots of people, yeah, I often wonder though if I flash and then they don't, then the chain is broken quite quickly, so maybe doing upto 4-5 cars in the opposite direction upto 1 mile from the "hazard"?

SCP/police/CPS recently, unsuccesfully, tried to prosecute a guy for 'obstructing the police'. he got off because there was no evidence the cars he flashed to slow down were actually speeding in the first place, therefore no proof he had helped them evade persecution by SCP/police parasites. if there was any evidence that the cars he warned had been speeding prior (which could just have been the *opinion* of a police officer or scp parasite) and he effectively tipped them off he would have been done for obstruction or worse case perverting the course of justice. hence the wording of my previous post. police/scp very upset with ruling.

I never flash idiots, let them get caught!
And If you see some one driving fast flash them and make hand signals, they'll slow down thinking there is a speed trap ahead!!!!

I've noticed Trafpol speedtrapping without wearing their Hi-vis on three seperate occasions recently despite this being against the ACPO code of Practice, yet when I've seen police officers on foot for any other reason they've always been wearing their hi-vis.

Sensible ruling. Such a shame the police / scp were upset about it.

But quite simply the mere fact they were upset shows it is about money. Otherwise, surely motorists warning each other to slow down means people SLOWING Down at accident blackspots and thus saving lives.... Or not?
