Another stock update
Discussion
Well, its been three months now and after lots of hard work and a big batch upload (got 58/59 images accepted
) I had my biggest ever sales day selling 28 photos for $7.36 at shutterstock alone yesterday.
Ive been shooting/uploading steadily and reckon my monthly earnings at shutterstock are upwards of $100. Peanuts yes, a drop in the ocean perhaps, but does give a much clearer and more accurate idea of what a varied portfolio (nearly 300 images) amounts to than my initial sales figures which were all over the place.
Ive found out that the business/lifestyle conceptual stuff does seem to sell significantly better than anything else. The photo below sold 5 times yesterday. I should hope so too, as I nearly got run over whilst taking it from the middle of the road

only got 17 pics and sold 24 so far. 5 being my best day.
The more you sell the more you want to sell. I've taken and processed nearly 100 images in the last week. You need more than 10 keywords per image, too. The more images you have, the more buyers will find their way into your gallery, and pick up other similar images they like.poah said:

Just uploaded the last of my 'pending' files. Time to get out and about.

I just don;t have the time nor the energy to be honest.
It all depends on how much you value your time. Are the returns worth the time and effort in composing a shot, uploading, adding keywords, etc, etc x XYZ amount of photos you plan to upload.
I'm not quite into it as much as Rob is and I don't get as much time to take photos as I did. Although when I do, when I find a pic I like I'll upload it to istockphoto and leave it be. A month or two ago I uploaded some photos I'd taken in NY last year from the top of the Empire State Building, logged in today to discover I'd sold a few, made $1
Right now though it's not really worth my time to make it a full time thing as I can make more doing freelance work for other companies.

I'm not scanning in my passport for them.
I'd signed up until that point
Oh well.

Why not Kinky? Nearly 30'000 other photographers have. They need it for legal reasons. Photograph it at a slight angle, its not like they are going to be able to reproduce it. You run a FAR greater risk every time you use your credit/debit card in a shop. I'd signed up until that point
Oh well.

Whats your main fear?
