Just changing to 16" front wheels on my Chim as recommended by various threads. Getting new tyres all round tomorrow - decided on Toyo T1-R. Thinking of 225/50 on back (no 245/45 available) and a choice of 205/45 or 205/50 up front. Erring towards 205/50 as I think would look better balanced with the rear. Car also has Nitrons fitted so ride is already firm, but there again I am looking at competing in TVR speed championship so maybe handling would be better with lower profile? Decisions, decisions... Thoughts please.

I've got 205/50 16s on the front of mine and they seem to work OK and the proportions look alright.

Always worth asking around for 245/45's.One tyre place dealt directly with Toyo and couldn't get me any and my local one sources them elsewhere and got me two without a problem.( albeit about 3quid dearer )

Tyre width needs to be right for the rim width. What width rims are you going to use front and back?

Standard 16" Chimaera rear wheels which I believe are 8" wide - hope these will be ok...

They're 7.5Js, 225 is the ideal width for that (and what I run). It's very convenient to run the same size all round as it means you can rotate the tyres to even out the tyre wear.

I had a chim a few years back and bent a front wheel(15",couldn`t seem to get a replacement front so I fitted 16" wheels to the front but also tvr supplied two nylon rings to fit on the rack to limit turn as they rubbed on full lock.
is this practise still used or are the later bodies different?
I do still have one very good replacement front 15" wheel if anybody needs it.

im running 205/50 16 front no problems at all.i think 45,s may look odd compared to the rear profile, the rolling radius is different too.

Slightly off thread but how do you rat eteh Nitrons on teh Chim ? I have driven them on an Elise and considering them on teh Chimp - worthwhile - whats approx cost ?

As for 16" front the 15" are better for competition as you suggest you may be partaking, as teh turn in and overall control & balance is improved, hence why TVR fitted them IMHO.

Mick where did you get the Spiders from as they are 5 bolt ..did you get the 5 bolt conversion? As I really wanted them...

..After a long time searching I finally got the Kahn's (see Profile Pic) 18'' Rear 17'' Front on Toyo's.. still drives like a dream!

Hi,yes i had to get a 5 stud conversion, maybe not the cheapest way for new wheels but like you i really wanted the spiders. Very pleased with them
