Rib me all you want, I don't care. But where does it attach. I've looked on the filter housing etc but can't find it. Is it there or do I buy one?

assuming you mean the feed pipe for the oil pressure gauge.....
it attaches at the same hole in the block as the switch for the oil pressure light (just above and left of the dizzy looking from the front).
if you've not had one fitted before you'll need a 'T' piece, the pressure switch going in one hole, the feed pipe in the other.
some of the older base model minis just had a pressure gauge in the same hole.

You buy the adaptor piece from Mini Spares for a few quid. Don't forget to have some copper washers as well as you may need them. Then just run the plastic pipe around the edge of the engine bay into the car. Check for leaks after fitting and before driving off.

finally got round to buying one b ut I'm confused. I see how it fits in the engine and I also see how the unit that was there fits into it. But how the heck does the pipe screw in? the pipe I have has unions at each end, the type with the nuts that spin onto a thread but this is no good as it goes in a hole and needs its own thread??

the 'T' piece normally comes with 2 female thread, and one male thread where it goes into the block.
the oil light switch goes in one hole, and the oli pressure gauge goes in the other.

if the pipe that feeds your gauge has a female nut on it (as i think most of them do), you'll need a male/male adaptor to between the pipe and the 'T' piece.

i expect minispares will sell one, or if you can find an old mini in a scrappies with the 3 centre clocks, you could nick the adaptor from the block on that engine.

just editing to add this bit should do the job if the threads are correct. you might have to phone them to confirm.
