Curious potentiometer under passenger side dash

Hi all,

Could be one that the previous owner can only advise but I have found what looks to be a potentiometer/rheostat fitted under the passenger side dash in my Tuscan. There are 2 white wires connected to the bottom of the pot with a third wire coming from the side. I have a feeling it has something to do with the AMP fitted in the boot for the sound system but curious if anyone might shed some light on this before I go "fiddling" with it....

Any ideas?
