realizing that this is likely a dead-end, I'll still ask if anybody has seen or heard of any Chaparral recreations? Not picky, I'd take a 2C, 2D, 2E, or heck even a 2J

Last week while nearby on business I saw the actual cars (except 2F which was at the Revival in UK), and sat in one of the "continuation" 2E's that they will supposedly be selling as turn-keys next year (my guess would be $150k++). Just seems like somewhere along the line somebody should have cranked out some 2E/2C fiberglass bodies for fitment on a GT40/ultima type frame.

a few pics I took of the real cars here:

pages and pages, and numerous permutations of "Chaparral replicar" googling have turned up nothing...

cheers

thanks for that!! From there I found the website: www.gtreproductions.com/

emailed the owner, who claimed the body/chassis/glass kit will sell for ~20k US, and turn-key minus motor ~50k US. Look forward to seeing it completed!!

Waiting for a response from the Chaparral Museum on any more info on the 'Coninuation' 2Es...

cheers
Kurt

The continuation cars from Chapparal are not in the replica budget.
I know for a fact that Musser and Hall have turned down 600k usd each for the first two cars, the plan is to build 6-10 units and then discontinue .
We made some components for the first car on display at Monterey in 2005 and I have regular contact with the continuing builds....the cars are absolute continuation cars with newly cast transaxles per original spec....

Thanks for the info Fran. Can't imagine even "100%" exact replicas costing more than 600k though, I bet there was some other reason they turned down that 1.2M offer!

The reality of having even a FIACoupe have set in a bit after the euphoria of seeing the cars, now I'm looking at either a Saturn Sky Turbo or a used 3.0 Z4... pedestrian yet, but a bit more usable

The reason given to me was that they feel the cars are worth more......ouch.

I think one may show up at Barrett Jackson and spoil the idea....if one sells ther for 350 or so it will then dictate the value that the market will bear.....

I hope that I am wrong but I dont think they will maintain the higher price point for long.....but at BJ anything is possible

hey more power to them! Wouldn't surprise me if they can find 10 people with $1M to spend on one. Does strike me as a bit greedy though, when I visited Midland Jim was playing golf at his Colorado retreat. Doesn't sound like he's too hard up for cash
