Rendevous to get Public Release

That famous blast through Paris hits the big screen and the little one

For many years "C’était un Rendezvous" has been passed around the internet by petrolheads around the world.

Filmed in 1976, the revered short film by French director Claude Lelouch is regarded as the ultimate street driving film, making the likes of Bullitt seem amateur.

Mystery and speculation surround the film. Was it Lelouch or a hired Formula One driver who drove the car and was it really a Ferrari 275 GTB?

What we do know is that there are no special effects or blocking off the streets. Lelouch simply mounted the camera on the front of the car and took it on an astonishing, death-defying drive through the streets of a beautifully filmed 70s Paris with a brutal soundtrack courtesy of the engine, exhaust and tyres.

It's a film that gets the spine tingling - not just because of the beautiful sound track, but because it's so Politically incorrect in these namby pamby times.

Now the film is to escape the underground and receive public viewings. It will be shown for two weeks (before George Clooneys’ "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind") at The Electric Cinema, Notting Hill, London from March 14-28.

I just spoke to the distributors of the film. We should have a few copies to give away in a competition next week.

When I looked at trying to get a copy of this I came up with £50 for a video tape from the (The "Rainforest" book retailer from memory), this seemed totally OTT. However £15 for the DVD will be a welcome addition to the collection.

You might want to mention to them that their checkout page is currently failing when they attempt to pass the order over to their PSP. SSLRealy.com is reporting the following :-

Frustrating as I've been waiting for ages to try and get a copy of this on DVD - top news though!!

Mannginger, when you click on the link to play from the website it should ask you if you want to download and install some 'codecs'. Say yes and it should download the required drivers for you then play the film clip.

BTW it sure sounds like a 275GTB circa 1968 vintage, probably the quad cam version.

Driver is definitely a good driver, but I cannot condone that sort of hooning in general. I admit to being a hypocrite in enjoying this clip and the likes of Getaway in Stockholm but believe they should not have been made.....

Ordering system sems to be working OK now. Have just ordered a copy. I have a downloaded copy already but the quality is terrible. Looking forward to seeing it with decent colourand sound - I hope!

Bloody excellent shortie this - been trying to get a copy for years - good, good news - essential viewing. Will be possible in London now that Congestion Charging has reduced numbers - with the possibility of encountering a nutter like the one in the film driving no sensible person would ever venture onto any capitol's streets - surely a viable, and more easily implemented alternative to CC
