I had a good blast into Bath last night to pick my girlfriend up from a boozy night out. On awaking with the mother of all hangovers she “politely” asked me to get her some tea and breakfast. After discovering that the fridge lacked milk, I decided my life would be easier if I popped up the shop to get some more.

NOW usually I wouldn’t take the Trev for a short journey, but I had left the roof of the land rover over night and the British weather had turned it into a paddling pool. So, I jumped in the purple monster and popped 1 mile up the road to the local news agents. I got some milk, turned the key, dash light came on, then everything died… No power to anything!!!

I thought this can’t be too serious if everything has gone, it must be the battery terminal or a major fuse. I didn’t want to look like a prat on the side of the road for too long, so I hoped out to run round to the passenger side to check the battery, stupidly forgetting to open the passenger door before I closed the driver door.

So there I am with it P***ing it down with rain, stood in shorts, t-shirt and flip flops. I had to inform the news agent that the car was staying put for half hour while I ran down the hill (in flip flops) to get some tools.

I knew the hocus pocus trick of getting in but had never practiced it. I packed a few screwdrivers, fuses and voltage metre into a box and called a mate to run me back up in his car (the girlfriend was still over the limit)

It took me less then two minutes to get into the car and diagnose a loose battery terminal. I am now afraid of leaving anything in the car, just in case some Bristol chav works out what the magic word is!

I hope the immobiliser would have been harder to tamper with????

Scary isn't it. I have never left anything of value in a convertible for fear of the hood being slashed. In fact I never lock my Cavalier convertible for that very reason. There is nothing they can take that costs more than a new hood! I'm sure any self unrespecting Chav would have the rear window of your Chim out in seconds!
Regards, Robin.
