If you put £150-£200 aside a month that should provide enough cash should something happen and will easily cover scheduled servicing.

That is if you are doing the normal mileage.

Matt.

Well how longs a piece of string?
How many miles a year are you going to do?
Are you including insurace costs?
How old a Chimaera have you got/getting?
Will you be using every day?

depends is the answer.
Assuming you go non-franchised then I would guess £1500 per year for servicing and consumables. Then lots of petrol, insurance etc some years will be less and some will be more.

Have a look through the Members Cars section of this website as well. I've got most of my costs detailed under my profile, as do several other members. Just search for the model you are interested in and have a read through the entries.

You soon start to recognise what parts start to wear out at different stages e.g. Steering rack reconditioning seems to happen a lot on M/N reg Chimaeras at the moment - I've just done the same myself!

what you after and what you want to spend?
Thought about a Griff 500 ? Having owned a chim 450 and now a cerb 4.5 I have concluded that if I had my time again I would have started with a Griff 500.

18K - is that what you pay for an old one? I would have thought that you should be able to get a 2.5 yr old 4 ltr Chimp for that or a 3.5 yr old 4.5ltr or maybe even a 5ltr of similiar age.
I sold my My late 97p 4.5 Chimp in early 2000 for 21K. It was immaculate etc. So I would guess that a smiliar car of simliar age etc 3 years later would be dropping towards your money. Dealers cars are much dearer though.
Dont buy the first car. Get a popular colour. PAS is popular. Full leather is worth getting if you can. No need for air con on a chimp.
I would say find a well known car through these pages.
dont be put off by high miles. It is better than ultra low miles.
