If you want something to compare it to, the internet archive is growing at around 20TB per month, and that must represent the bulk of the publicly accessible internet. If you want to make it sound impressive you could describe it in terms of hours of high resolution video stored etc, 3TB is probably the equivalent of about 6000 hours of video which is a little over eight months of continuous playback.

Well, first of all, it is Terabytes not Terrabytes
The Tera/Terra thing got me thinking though, 5TB would be enough to digitise the surface of the earth to a resolution of 1 byte every 10x10m - which probably doesn't sound that impressive but gives you an idea of what storage Google Earth needs.
Or, put another way, 3TB is approximately 4400 CDs (that would be 52.8 metres high) or over 700 (single layer) DVDs
Or, if you say that a grain of sugar represents 1 bit, and is 0.5mm cubed, 24 Tera bits would be 15 metres cubed.
Or, get hold of an old full size 10MB MFM hard drive. It is 300,000 of those.
Over 2 million, 3.5in floppy disks. Stacked on top of each other, they would be 6.875km high, or 4 and a quarter miles.

600 DVDs or thereabouts
Its possible to get 18Tb (3,600 DVD's in DVD format or 30,000 CDs in WAV format) in a single 3U rackmount chassis (270Tb in a 45U enclosure). [Heat issues aside]
Going on the meg a minute rule of thumb 18Tb would represent 35.25 years of 24/7 music without having to hear the same track twice, 3Tb being 5.7 years.
Or if you went for a rack full almost 530 years of music at a meg a minute...
