How often do most local IAM groups meet?

My local group only seemd to meet every 3 months or so. However, there is another group a similar distance away so I may give them a ring and ask the question.

Soory, forgot a title can some-one please add - "Frequency of IAM group meetings?" perhaps.

Phil,

I've added the title for you as requested

As for my own group - Thames Valley - they meet once a month, on the last Thursday of each month, and usually a 2-hour affair, with guest speakers, etc, etc ....

However, that all said and done - I've never attended one - as it's probably the worst day in the month for me!

Philbes,

www.iam.org.uk/

Go to Groups, select your target website - meeting details are normally shown.

There are 4 groups within a 45 minute drive of my house. Looking at their web-sites they all, except the group I have joined, meet every month except August. I did note that one group has meetings where around half the 'talks' are on non-motoring related subjects. 'My' group's web-site is not kept up-to-date with dates/details of meetings, but I believe that there has been 3 meetings so far this year! The nearest group to me is the one that has non-motoring related talks - if my interest was in ceramics or the history of the local town there are other interest groups I would join.

I suppose one answer is to become involved in helping to organise speakers and visits for 'my' group.

How come car groups generally think the (only?) thing to do is have speakers come along. Perhaps a bit more imagination from the car groups wouldn't go amiss!

Looking at the ideas from IAM bike groups or the High Performance Club might spark the odd creative juice.

I did say speakers AND visits as I had noted from other groups' web-sites that many of them have organised visits to driving- related companies, etc.
