You are not seriously going to drink that, are you??
There's something about those shades of whites that don't quite hit me. Maybe it's the lighting or maybe it's just my personal taste (which hardly means it's not going to sell). Probably, as Ross mentioned, I would've liked the different cup. I think it's the extremely light white at the edges (I call it bleached out
) that I'm not so sure of.

I shoot to please the buyers, and strangely... I myself personally do prefer over blown and whited out backgrounds. shame on me I know. Although I am curious to see my pics on more monitors to see how badly blown Ive made all my pics.

My daughter owns a coffee shop, We spent housrs trying to get a good shot of a cup with coffee beans. Finally got what we thought was OK. It is now blown up to 4ft X 3ft as a wall feature.

Black might look better from a photographers point of view. But for stock the "best" (best selling) images would be in a real environments. Second to that they would be shot on white. If Im still shooting stock when I move (and get enough space for a studio, hopefully/maybe) then I'll try shots on backgrounds which look more realistic. One of the best selling photos on shutterstock is this one:
It sells because it is a good shot. And the background is realistic. If designers cant have a good/realistic background then they'll buy images shot on white.
Most designers search for "over white" "on white" "isolated on white" - all my 'successful' images always contain the keywords 'isolated' and 'white'
Of the 535 "hamburgers" online at shutterstock, this one sells best
Its a nice/great burger, wet and shiny unlike my comparitivly dry looking burger (which is in second place
) but although it is poorly lit (I dont like the lighting!) its popular because the background is pure white with no shadow at all, a genuine "isolated on white" photo! Smart/Lazy designers (you decide whether they are lazy or smart) buy isolated images because it reduces their photoshop workload. I dont have a black card yet, but will re-shoot on black to see how it affects sales. I'd guess if any colour had to be chosen, black might come second to white. I did shoot it on red, but I much prefer the white.
Colourful shots usually look best on white (in my opinion)

Is there a haberdashers near you? I have a piece of really dark blue velvet (offcut about £1:50
) that works really well. It would be easy to lay in the tent too.
Martin.
I bought loads of coloured materials but I havent yet found the need to use em yet, just white card. The last time I sifted through the cutoffs bin, taking my "prized cloth" to the counter explaining it was from the cutoffs bin, I was charged full price. Material is horrendously expensive! I have a long haired soft furry white rug type of fabric which I plan to use when I find someone who has a baby chicken they can lend me for the afternoon. I dont know anyone with spare chickens so thats on hold. Next up, a gerbil on the aforementioned white cloth...

Yes, but several cups, only the front, most in focus one, with the "real" coffee in would be quite a good idea....
