one old box shape micra 1.2 glx. one 17year old punk with cap(me). one long speeping right hander, tightens. 40mph. one ditch = new front wing .
birkbecks rally school interveens.
same corner, same car 45mph, 50mph, 60mph!
did speed cause that crash, or did lack of education ?
speed camaras may be a easy fix to sum MP but if u want to save lifes and cut the numbers of people on the road down, they seriously need to revamp the driving test.
cars overstear and cars understear , cars hit standing water , cars go over 70mph . time that the goverment stoped pretended they didnt.

So many variables though. Road conditions, weather, amount of tread on tyres etc. etc.

I'm sure your point is accurate, but there are other causes of accidents besides driver skill and speed.

and is it right that there failing drivers for useing gears too slow the car down ! banghead
is this the reason why young girls keep flying past me coming into roundabouts, whacking there brakes on late , seeing its clear then getting frustrated as i pass them as they do 20mph still in 5th gear?
3 times i under took one girl on a bunch of roundabouts. she got faster and faster , im not trying to race u lady , just drop a gear grrrr.
not a stab at young girls its just the boys that age are practicing changing lanes like f1 drivers warming tyres, what is that all about? "iv over took u now im going to get back into that lane as FAST as i possibly can". then feel the fastest way down the road is right up the car in fronts behind. grrrr

The trouble is the government only have one message "speed kills"!
The message is 20 is plenty!

Many new drivers have accidents and think "I wasn't breaking the speed limit, how could that happen"! The fact maybe they put the power on through a bend in the rain and didn't even know whether their car has front or rear wheel drive or what that even means!

They only start learning to control a car via trial and error after they have passed the test, which can't be good for road safety. Basic skid pan training and a few laps with an instructor would do the world of good as you say. But we live in an ever nannying society so it isn't going to happen, it would be wrongly seen as encouraging aggressive driving by the do-gooder brigade.

yes , unfortunately the powers that be think that if u teach a driver about overstear then tesscos roundabouts will just be a bunch of traffic driffting in 4th gear power slides past each other. bit like the new astra advert.

I was a passenger with a 17yr old newly passed driver yesterday. It was very interesting. No sign of boy racer, just the most amazing lack of observation! Looking straight ahead, head not moving at all, not using mirrors. eeek.

See that type a lot in Leeds. They don't seem able to work out dual carriageways in city's.

Was probably staring at the speedo. That's the most important safety message these days to keep us all safe rolleyes.

I can always spot 1st class speedo starers because they're unusually slow and you just know they're the ones that are going to drive straight through hazards at any moment, oblivious to all, like nearly mowing people down on crossings etc.

teaching a young guy to do an emergancy stop at 30mph is carzy. you know the 2nd he passes hes test the first thing he wants to do is see what the max speed is .
its like the first time you get the internet alone , u know what the first thing you searched for lol, same as the first word u looked up in the dictionary
