Today we decided to upgrade memory on girlfriends PC. Motherboard is Asus A7V8X.We removed original memory and installed 512mb PC3200.We then had an audible message on booting up saying System failure memory cache or I think it was cache, bit muffled. In the manual it states Memory: 3 x DDR DIMM Max. 3GB unbuffered PC3200/2700/2100/1600 non-ECC SDRAM(PC3200 Max to 1 DIMM only. I don`t really understand what this means We tried installing original memory and had the same failure message. What should we do next? Thanks

Look twice if you fitted it correctly to the slot!

Did you install the right kind of ram, DDR/ DDR2/ SDRAM etc...?

Could be a school boy error

I hate it when that happens... you have a great idea to make your comp work better and it blows up in your face... and now it doesn't work... hmmmm.

Did you get the ram from a decent dealer? By decent i mean someone not like fleabay/eb***r as you are then buying (sometimes:cough cack ram IMHO.
Have you tried reseting the bios? It's normaly a jumper that needs shorting.

Sounds most likely that you have tried to install the wrong type of RAM. I looked up the motherboard on the interweb and it say that it MAY support pc3200 ram! I would suspect that in order to do this a BIOS upgrade would be necessary first. That still doesnt explain why your old ram now wont work in it. I suggest verifying the installation of the modules. When inserting them did they go in with a click and the two retaining clips postioned over the top of them easily? If not take them out and try again. Also did you make sure you were (a) earthed before hadling them and (b) only touched then ends and not the chips themselves. If you didnt do either then you may have err knackered the chips.

Good luck.
