Care to review your own car?

I'm in the processing of adding a section where owners can review cars. We should be able to build this into a useful database of reviews from people who know what they're talking about rather than some of the sites like dooyoo.co.uk where they're populated by dreamers who've seen pictures of the cars

First one here...

www.pistonheads.com/reviews/reviews.asp?c=29&id=164

I'll add more models once I've checked there are no teething problems.

I'd love to ted... Cheers
Matt.

Edited to say.. there's a bit of an issue with objectivity on the form though... so far I've filled in Excellent for all the dropdown boxes

450 added too now.

www.pistonheads.com/reviews/products.asp?c=29

The objectivity thing does concern me. For that reason I will be introducing a system where people can rate the reviews (not the reviewer!) so the more accurate/honest/objective reviews become obvious.

I think you need to change the headings or something.. My chim handles excellently in the Dry for example, but is a different matter in the wet.. I have said it has excellent handling, as, when I drive it hard in the dry, it has.. however it has worse handling characteristics overall than my Saxo.. there is no benchmark for the rating...

Cheers
Matt
(not trying to be a pain, but 100x "Excellent" doesnt mean that much really)

That was my concern. Could you not just make such a point in your review?

The ratings are one thing, but if it's to become a useful resource for potential buyers then I'd hope we can have some more comprehensive opinions on the car rather than "it's great".

I'll see if I can find some way of encouraging more comprehensive opinions to be expressed.

A bit "Chimaeraist" in this PC day and age, Ted?

:ducks:

What a good idea - some more balanced information for newcombers will be good PR for the cars and PH

Absolutely. I think it could prove an interesting and valuable resource if we can encourage some comprehensive contributions.

Absolutely. This has the potential to be an extremely useful and interesting part of the site.

Today was useful in that I fine tuned a few bits in light of what was entered. I'll continue that process and introduce more marques and models over the days to come.

Great idea Ted

Perhaps we could include some common problems / niggles that people have had experience of as well.

For example, when you start the Boxster from cold you get a puff of blue smoke. To the untrained eye this might look a bit terminal but its perfectly normal - its just a bit of oil thats settled and burns off.

You're right though - a good, comprehensive set of reviews could make a great reference point.

And also potential new owners can be pointed in the direction of the reviews ... you'll have to flag 'em up big and bold Ted, so they don't ask the same old questions etc, which although still interesting to a point, lose thier appeal when repeated again and again.

Agreed. I'm trying to make info more readily available for potential owners. To that end I've included relavent links to the right of the classifieds.
