My oil pressure gauge works fine but the oil pressure light does not come on when the ignition is switched on or engine started

Is this definitely the bulb (dash out job to replace) or could it be the wire disconnected - if disconnected would the light be off or on permanently ?

Are there any tests I can do before hauling out the dash ?
thanks in advance

If the wire at the switch is disconnected the light would be permanently off.

the oil switch is seperate to the gauge sender, and yes they sometimes fail open circuit, try taking the wire off the switch and shorting to the engine block if the light comes on with the ignition on you found your problem, failing that could be lamp or wiring fault.
