Hello from the wacky world of dialup nuts

Mrs Puggit cancelled NTl in a fit of pique, so I'm stuck using my sister's AOl dialup while we wait for sky broadband to appear from over the horizon...

Does anyone know of any short term broadband providers? Virgin don't have contracts, but charge £50 if you cancel within 12 months...

Luna internet have no contracts/termination fee, but are expensive compared to the traditional 12 month boys, e.t. 30 odd quid a month.

Hmm... I believe it's a criminal offence to do it without permission these days, but with permission you could just make one of the Pringles antennaes to pick up on the signal and see if that works for you.

www.freeola.com

minimum of 3months, then 1 month notice to cancel.

Seem to have good reviews as well and when I called their sales/support line to check a few things, I got through after 2 rings yikes and they knew what they were talking about yikesyikes

How far? Wireless bridge at the extremity of your garden, or too far?

Plusnet do one month contracts but you pay the installation fee of £58.50.

Indeed most of the ISPs will do this I'm sure as they absorb the cost of the £58.50 (installation and admin by being charged by BT) into the yearly contracts - hence why you've seen the £50 cancellation fee bandied about...

you might want to get one of these then
www.hawkingtech.com/products/productlist.php?CatID=32&FamID=60&ProdID=308

that should allow you to pick up the signal

i've bought one of these as i didn't want to run 50m of network cable through 2 walls and up the garden path. Works a treat and i get a "good" signal strength.
